I stopped by my old Starbucks this morning for the first time in about six months. As much as some of the staff is changing constantly, some people have been there for many many years and it's kind of wacky (and nice) to be able to walk in some place I haven't been for so long and recognize everyone there. That's mostly with the morning crew, both staff and customers. Afternoon people aren't nearly as regular. The regular morning customers are a bit bizarre, though - I can't imagine going someplace every single day of my life and getting the exact same thing and sitting in the same place for upwards of ten years, which some of them have been doing. Some of those people are great, and some of them are like this dude Joe, whose only way of communicating with a woman is by hitting on her. He was there this morning, too, which was great lest I get too nostalgic about working as a coffee girl. Not in super danger of that happening, but still: thanks for keeping that in check, Joe. Anyway, I need to hang out with some of my old coworkers because they are super fab peoples.
Also, I got a new camera. It will primarily be devoted to making stop motion animations - like, in case I have something set up and don't want to move the camera for a few days/weeks and we want to, you know, take pictures of anything, we will be ok. It makes me simultaneously very excited and very nervous, because I have a really hard time buying things for myself that cost more than $30. Being selfish, cannot cope, etc. Stop motion is pretty great though and I need to gut through the 30 days I have from purchase of camera and not guilt-return it in a fit of craziness. Anyway, we went for a really long walk last weekend and took the camera to test it out, and here are a couple of pictures from that, including a millipede:
I will tell you a professional behind-the-scenes secret about this picture: Brian's butt is sticking out from behind the other side of the tree, and he wasn't actually all that hidden.
aw yiss, hahaha. In an unexpected turn, the vividness of Brian's shirt plus the shallow depth of field sort of makes it look like I pasted him onto the background. I didn't.
MILLIPEDE
people walking by kept being like "oh, what are you taking pictures of?" probably expecting us to say something really exciting like "human remains," but nope, just a millipede and testing out the extremes of the camera's settings.
Also it's spring break next week, so we're hoping to make it out to Devil's Lake again for a short vacation. Fingers crossed that the abnormally nice weather holds until then, and if not, oh well, I'll still go for walks in the cold and rain.
AND:
The new Mars Volta album is streaming in its entirety right here. Super duper.
