What is with the fake meat?

Wandering around Treehugger.com I am struck by how Tofu focused their food info seems to be. I guess it is an angle to take when trying to convince people to move towards something less carbon intense then cattle, but doesn't that just emphasis the difference, rather than convince through similarity? And it's not like the soy industry isn't without it's questionable parts, what with issues of deforestation in distant countries for new soy bean feilds to satisfy the recent surge of interest.

But politics aside, I like eating things make sense for the component ingredients, not stuff that has been processed to the point of being indistinguishable from an abused lump of flesh. Why not eat beans as beans instead of pretending they need to be something else?

OK, not terribly original rant, but it's how I feel. *sigh* I guess I am just another self-righteous whiner who is disapointed by the relative positions of public oriented organisations.
