Sore into the saddle

I have to say I do not recommend breaking up your educational path all that much. I am having to relearn most of I learned 2-4 years ago because I am finally taking the successive materials. In such traditional academic programs like Math and Music theory, where you are being trained more in depth than learning a wide range of ideas, it makes a ( Read more... )

it's all about thought patterns. ugrad is that. I've found the actual material to be nearly secondary (well, save those times I got screwed on courses like numerical methods, but then, I'm that idiot savant type... or maybe that idiot who just manages to scrape by...) In that respect, I've found you to be far better that almost any I've seen.

One of the most interesting aspects about you, I've found, is that you consciously examine thought patterns, and where they come from, and why they're useful. Ugrad is that, if anything.

I entertainingly once noticed that all my ugrad classes that required memorization of crap to be real were the 200 level ones (required for my Engineering courses, that I know law, basic economics and ethics by rote... or something like that). All the real material I could break down to thought patterns, add those to my mental toolkit and discard the fluff.

I've tried to watch you closely as you went through your extended ugrad ordeal. You did better on learning thought patterns that I did, as far as I can tell. This means you're grousing about having to bring thought patterns to the forefront of your brain, and perhaps there's a little bit of the details that are in memory land, but pshaw, you should chew through that without breaking a sweat.

I suspect the real chore is keeping all and any interesting ideas in line so you can focus on the material at hand. Those who have taken the material in order may be confined to think in a certain way, but you are not, and you still have to deliver what your prof is expecting.

I'm dying to know if I'm close! Did you suffer as I did (albeit for different reasons, you being astute and me being lazy)?

Oh Finn :D
