Help California Wolves!

Apr 14, 2014 17:46

It's been so heartening to see wolves return to California after a long absence. Yet, they are very vulnerable to all the usual suspects.

Please help out:

The story of Journey the wolf (OR-7) and his travels into California has both captivated the nation and demonstrated that wolves are returning to our state. Unfortunately, there are no existing state protections for gray wolves. That means that if the proposal to kick wolves off the endangered species list nationwide becomes final, wolves in California would be left without a safety net.

Please speak out for wolves today by emailing the California Fish and Game Commission to ask that they grant gray wolves the highest level of state protection by listing them under the California Endangered Species Act (CESA).

The Commission is set to vote on this issue at its meeting on April 16th, so please act right away and take action to protect California wolves.

Wolves have been absent from California for nearly 90 years, having been eradicated from the West in the early 20th century. Less than two decades after wolves were reintroduced to Yellowstone, the gray wolf has begun to return to California. The Department of Fish and Wildlife concluded in a recent study that California could support hundreds of gray wolves. But they need protections to get there.

Please ask the California Fish and Game Commission to grant gray wolves protection under the California Endangered Species Act.

Thank you for your commitment to wildlife and wild places.

Sincerely,

Dr. Mark Rockwell
California Representative
