A Dent in the 80s (DW)

This is part of a post-"Journey's End" novel-length story I am writing -- Lord help me, I've never done it before and I have no idea what I am doing, and oh god, not *another* JE post-ep -- and I am almost certain it's going to have to be cut, in a 'kill your darlings' sort of way. I do like the idea of it, though, and there's continuity squee ( Read more... )

Oh yes! Much icon love for you! I think Catherine Tate's a gorgeous lady, but she looks especially lovely there. She's got beautiful eyes, and she's got a great jawbone. Ah me.

Well, if this is just a snippet... I can't wait to see the whole shebang. I think you've really got Donna sewn up-- she's raw, she's brash, and she's not a perfect person... thank GOODNESS. I love it!

And you're right-- I've been really heartened to see the communities spring up, and fic generated because of that ending. It's kind of hopeful, because I love that people say, "You know, that's not really satisfying... here's an idea!" and running with it. That's very exciting to me.

I hardly know you, but given this little fic, I should say that you're contributing a great deal to the cause!

I appreciate you anti-jossed attitude. I think there's so much to the canon of Doctor Who that it gives some much amazing leeway that being utterly jossed is less of a risk... but maybe I'm a hopeless idiot. As far as I'm concerned, Moffett damn near jossed himself with the River Song bit! Silly critter, messing with other Doctors!

But really, what an awesome snippet! I appreciate you posting it! Many cheers for this, and many cheers for upcoming fics. May I friend? I'd like to keep on the lookout. And once upon a time, I was a huge phile...so I ought to go dive into your XFiles stories... which was why I was directed here in the first place.

But then I saw Donna! I mean, come on! A really well-written Donna fic? Sorry, Carter. My heart belongs to another ginger lass these days. ;)

Please feel at liberty to friend. Can't promise much content but you never know, I am feeling sort of inspired these days. *g*

I'm not worried about being jossed by the show or the specials, they're still too far off. But I am worried that someone in fandom will have the same idea, because it's so imaginative and vibrant a place. I stayed away from online Who fandom for years and years because I was afeart it would kill my love for the show, but these days I can hang out on Teaspoon for hours, if I let myself.

It's weird, with the Doctor Who companion role, though, isn't it? I am rewatching season one and discovering that Rose that season was absolutely adorable -- it's only in season two that I thought the character worked less well. I *always* thought Martha was awesome and still do. But there's just been something about Donna that seems to have got under fandom's skin somehow, and made them love her (with exceptions. You know. Blind people. Stupid people. People who made their minds up within five minutes of the Runaway Bride. Morons of various stripes *g*)

I was talking with some friends about it and we agreed that in terms of scripts this past season wasn't actually the best there's been, we just loved it more -- and really, that comes down to Tennant and Tate, their chemistry and how it translated onscreen. Oh, please, please, please, let them both be persuaded back for one last hurrah. Preferably a season five's-worth of hurrah.
