Every single one has a story to tell

So, I think I might do NaNoWriMo this year albeit at a smaller word count to adapt to having Fallout: New Vegas available. I have two very basic story ideas to use for it. The question becomes metaphysical sci-fi or heroic fantasy? Both have an interest to me. The sci-fi story deals a lot with emotions and what makes someone human. For example, I don't experience many of the emotions most people do, so am I less human? So the story deals with the migration of people to digital form and the outcry against it.

The second story interests me because it's set in the fantasy world I've been developing for a while, but is not related to that story directly. I'm not even sure when it would be set in the world's timeline, but it takes place in the lands to the south from where that story takes place. A place where the communities there were able to develop strong magical lineages whereas to the North magic users were persecuted and either driven away or killed. I could set it during that time when the southern lands saw an exodus of refugees from the North that would split their societies into very different groups or set it much more into the past when the 4 main societies came to power and the eventual wars that took place. The former would be a more personal story following the changes that persecution and fear can have on people. The latter would be a more political warring states type story. Of course, there's no reason I can't slam the two ideas together and say they happened at the same time. Hmmm....
