Character Name: Master Chief Petty Officer John-117
Fandom: HALO novel and game-verses
Gender: Male
Age: 42 numeric years have passed since his birth in 2511, but his physical age is somewhere in his early twenties due to his time spent in deep space, slipspace, and cryo sleep. He has spent 27 years fighting the Covenant.
Sexuality (if applicable): N/A at this point in time. His sex drive has been suppressed and his priorities toward the Covenant/Human conflict interfere with any interpersonal relationships.
Original or Anomaly?: Original
Appearance: John stands at over two meters tall thanks to the platinum pellet with human growth hormone implanted in his thyroid---six foot ten inches, exactly, a behemoth of a man even without his literal half-ton of armor---and has the makeup of a clean cut man. His hair is dark and cropped military short; he has a strong jaw and an aquiline nose. As a child, he'd been splotched with a dusting of freckles over his nose and shoulders, but it's been nearly thirty years since he saw the light of day on a regular basis. His skin is ghostly pale as a result of being in his armor almost night and day. Most have never seen his face behind the reflective gold blast visor, further contributing to his elevated status as a near god in the eyes of the regular humans he fights alongside, but he's been described as having intelligent eyes and a serious mouth.
At age fourteen, his medical records note him as having the body of an eighteen year old Olympian.
That was before he went under augmentation.
I will be using
Channing Tatum for John's out-of-MJOLNIR PB.
Personality: First and foremost, John is a leader. He was chosen as one of the most ideal candidates for the SPARTAN-II program, due to an amazing genetic cocktail that left him physically excellent, intelligent, stubborn, and naturally aggressive. John is of the mindset that leaving a man behind is unacceptable, though the military has tried to work that out of him---unsuccessfully, of course. As quick a thinker on his feet as he has become, he has a tendency of tweaking plans and mission objectives in order to bring as many people home as possible. This has resulted in borderline insubordination, especially in his younger years, but he is almost beyond reproach from the military hierarchy thanks to his sheer battle prowess.
John is a man of few words, mainly keeping his thoughts and opinions to himself. He has a dry, particularly understated sense of humor---he isn't as quick a wit as Cortana, but his murmured replies to her quips usually have an undercurrent of humor to them. Cortana became his friend under the heat of battle, and she is a driving force in his life---he trusts her indefinitely, putting the fate of humanity on the line in trusting her advice, at one point. She is more than an AI to him, a partner whom he risks his life to go back for when they are separated between HALO 2 and 3---having promised to come back to save her, he makes good on it. This is something that he exhibits several times: he will not make a promise that he is sure that he can keep, which gives his promises a weight and gravity. He is far, far more than just an armored automaton, bred for battle but taught to be smart and efficient as well. His creativity, compassion, and tenacity in the face of overwhelmingly bad odds saved the human race from being blotted out from this side of the universe.
And that? Is something.
History:
HERE Strengths:
Augmentations:
- * Carbide ceramic ossification: The grafting of advanced materials onto the skeletal structure to make bones almost unbreakable. If coverage exceeded 3 percent of the total bone, mass white blood cell necrosis was common. In adolescents, growth spurts could result in bone pulverization.
- * Muscular enhancement injections: An intra-muscular injection of a protein complex to increase tissue density and decrease lactose recovery time. Increased the risk of a fatal cardiac volume increase.
- * Catalytic thyroid implant: The implantation of a platinum pellet in the thyroid containing human growth hormone catalyst. This boosted growth of skeletal and muscle tissues. It was known to suppress the sexual drive and cause elephantiasis.
- * Occipital capillary reversal: Increased blood vessel flow beneath the rods and cones of the retina. Increases visual perception. Known to cause retina rejection and detachment, as well as permanent blindness.
- * Superconducting fabrication of neural dendrites: Altered the bio-electrical nerve trans-duction to shielded electronic trans-duction. Resulted in a 300 percent increase in reflexes. Showed evidence of an increase in intelligence, memory, and creativity. Often caused Parkinson's disease and Fletcher's syndrome.
At age fourteen, John underwent some incredibly rigorous---and incredibly dangerous---physical augmentations. The survival rate of this was less than thirty percent; out of the seventy-five children in the SPARTAN-II program to undergo the surgeries, only thirty-three made it through. Because of all of these augmentations, John can lift three times his own weight---twelve times, when in his MJOLNIR armor---run at 55 kilometers an hour, see in the dark, and take almost any hit without his super reinforced bones breaking. He has an incredible ability to think on his feet and survive even the most dire of circumstances. He was made to be a one-man army, a tank and the finest example of human evolution possible.
His armor is another major strength---coupled with the AI neural interface. Unlike most Spartans, John has a passenger on board: Cortana, an AI created from a flash-cloned human brain. From the Halo Wiki: "In addition, the Mark V featured a weave of memory-processor super-conducting material (the same material as an AI's core) beneath its armor. This gave the suit nearly the same capacity as a ship-borne AI system. This along with an upgrade to the standard-issue neural implant, allowed an AI to inhabit the suit of armor and interface with the mind of its user, greatly enhancing the interface between the suit and the wearer as well as boosting real-time data processing power, which was intended to assist the user in real-time by monitoring communication channels, computer relays, and friendly combat updates. The AI could translate thought into motion quickly, thus boosting the reaction time. Since without the armor, a SPARTAN's reaction time is charted at twenty milliseconds, the AI boost could render it almost instantaneous. The AI could "use" the person whose suit they were installed in literally as "memory." The AI can use some of the human's wet ware biological processing for some of its functions when installed in a Mark V or higher."
Even though John doesn't have Cortana with him---she'd been transfered to the onboard computer before he was put into cryo---he still has his armor. For the sake of making this application concise, the MJOLNIR's abilities are listed
here.
Weaknesses: Since age six, John has been a warrior. Every day has been sleep, eat, and fight. He was meant for one thing and one thing alone: fighting the Covenant and recovering the lives and ground lost in the war. John has never had the freedom to be anything else, and has been trained so diligently, he wants nothing else. While he is more than a muscle-bound automaton---Cortana's first half-compliment, smoothed over with a cool laugh as she scoped out the inside of John's head---he has one purpose and that has narrowed down his experiences to the battlefield and nothing else. He has had no sexual contact, rare interpersonal communication with others, and has made no personal relationships with others. The two people that he has called friends---Spartan-087, Kelly, and Spartan-034, Sam---have both been killed in the line of duty or separated from John.
He is the last of his kind, the only remaining Spartan. All that is left is the war against the Covenant.
