So, what have I been doing for the past year? Well, seemingly not much. Let me see, at our last update I was still taking a Greek class at my university. I was thinking about law school, but no longer. Now I’m an office manager doing various things of a thingy nature with eyeballs. Yeah. I’m somewhat all over the place, but losing my desire to get a doctorate in English has sort of scattered my brain, well, all over the place… I think the best way to illustrate this is an oh-so-exciting narrated journey through a selection of books I’ve read lately…
The Count of Monte Cristo - The unabridged version, I conquered it, success! And I didn’t need to be locked away in a dungeon to do it. However, were I locked in a dungeon for the purpose of uninterrupted education I would not necessarily consider this a bad thing. I am a nerd.
The Consolation of Philosophy - I would probably only read this in the original Latin if locked in a dungeon. Fortunately my translation was adequate, philosophy, yay! Must not be sad I will probably never teach this as a subject to anyone now, although I do not actually enjoy teaching all that much so there we are. Hmm.
The Art of War - I have latent desires to conquer the world? Perhaps so, insert gratuitous finger twiddling here. Then again, ‘Imperious Caesar dead and turned to clay, could stop a hole to keep the wind away’ … Almost correct, ‘might’ stop a hole, minus 10 points in ability to quote Shakespeare category for an overall score of 90. Not bad.
Black Holes & Time Warps: Einstein’s Outrageous Legacy - I miss physics and have much love for Einstein and this book. However, this is not a book I can fit in my purse, and attempts to appear casual while reading it in waiting rooms have failed. Traveling book was replaced by purse friendly ‘semantic antics.’ Wonder why I have altogether ceased to write in complete sentences. Not sure. Am I talking to myself now? Perhaps so.
Ophthalmology Made Ridiculously Simple - I love eyeballs… Albeit not flaming ones. Hmmm. This requires further thought & lovely videos of various surgeries with Bach playing in the background. High quality entertainment!
More updates and ramblings later… It seems my ‘x’ key has attempted to defect from my keyboard *shakes fist at it*
