So, last night *before* the big storm that blew through the area, power at work went wonky. Apparently a line failed or something, and the generator kicked in for the machine room.
Which is all well and fine, except the big Liebert ACs that keep the machine room cool are not on the generator.
Which means last night consisted of myself and a coworker going through the machine room and powering down anything that wasn't critical. We dropped the room power load from about 83% to 54%. We propped open doors and put what fans we could find around.
Even then, the temperature climbed to almost 90 before I left.
Meanwhile, at home,
yolen had to deal with a brownout that somehow left the kitchen appliances without power. The stove, oven, and dishwasher were not too big a deal. The refridgerator on the other hand...
When I finally got home, we pulled the fridge out from its cubbyhole, and I scrounged up an extension cord, and we were able to power the fridge from a socket in another room.
Then, overnight, we had another power outage at home, I think around 4am. This one took out everything, including the two fans that were letting us sleep with *some* level of comfort. It lasted about 20-30 hot, awake minutes.
This morning when I awoke, our appliances were still without power, though they magically came back sometime after I finished my shower.
I walked into work, only to find we were still having power problems. My coworker B had come in a bit after 5am, and found that the temp had gone up to 94. He shut down a whole lot more, including storage and email. If I had checked my phone text messages, I would have seen that we were closed until noon. (As power still has not been restored, it looks like we are going to be closed all day today. Bing! Just got the text message confirming that.)
On the plus side, another coworker wrangled up some large industrial fans, so we have the machine room back down to 88.
Depending on predictions of when we will get power back, I may stick around, or not. I will be needed for bringing systems back up when it happens.
