An Enemy in my Own Country.

In the recent 4 years or so I have become more politically aware. Couple that with the fact that in the past 4 years political conflict in this country has become so much more heated and loaded with ill tidings because of all of the war and death. What you get is me being mentally and emotionally exhausted ( Read more... )

"But to take human dignity like that, to take that power to create, that power which so closely resembles divinity in a way, and scrape it raw and scoop out the once-life with a cold steel medical tool is an atrocity. And I dont see how you could justify that wonton disregard for dignity and the wonder of the natural universe that is conception. How hard can it really be to keep your cum out of a woman's uterus? Honestly? JUST DONT CUM IN HER FUCKING PUSSY! thats all it takes! Use a condom!? Take the pill!? Pull out!? There are several options."

I've read your whole post but there are a couple of statements i STRONGLY disagree with. the whole reason why people are pushing to have abortion remain legal is because of a women's rights and with that the ability to have access to contraception. the anti-abortion movement is trying to make it so that people will not be able to have access to the contraception which would help them to ensure control over their families and their life. Like you said, people want to have sex and they are allowed to do so if they choose, but when they choose to do so, their government is making sure that they have no affordable preventative measures (contraception, birth control, day after pill) against pregnancy. so no, it's not as easy as just "taking the pill", there are no "several options" Then you have poor women who are just acting out something natural, as we all do, and who are paying for it because they cannot afford contraception. according to the conservatives, she would be made to have this baby, whether or not the father stuck around. So then you have this poor woman made poorer because she has a baby and never had a chance to prevent it. So the conservatives are ensuring that she will always remain a second class citizen because of the fact she is a woman and bc she is unable to have the money to do somethign about it. It's another case of a government ran by mostly men making sure that women are barefoot and pregnant and therefore no threat to their control over the country. women should have the right to make decisions for their own bodies, men have no place.

I think that prevention of unwanted pregnancy is as much a man's responsibility as it is a woman's. I don't think that abortion should be made illegal. I don't think contraceptive methods are really as out of reach and expensive as you really make them out to be. I think we need to make contraceptive methods even more available than they are now and we definately need a standardized and more thourough and established sex education program. But that is not likely because of the influence of religious conservatism in this country and its stereotypical "sex is evil" stance.

Its hard for the government to really do anything about the rate of aborted pregnancies in the country because its a social, psycological and cultural issue and not something that is analytical or purely logic based. The government cant just step in and establish some program to fix the problems, but there are things it can to do alleviate or lessen the problem.
