I've been watching RIDICULOUS amounts of the jaw-droppingly brilliant "Six Feet Under" lately, mainly because I've been waiting for fucking EVER for Seasons 3 and 4 to go on sale, and a few weeks ago, they finally did, to $33 from $85 each. Anyway. I pulled out my Seasons 1 and 2 a few months ago (knowing that 3 and 4 were due to be temporarily re-priced) and watched them again before beginning 3 and 4. I finished 3 a few nights ago, and fuck, I was, and still am, so affected by Lisa's death. How awful. She was my favourite character of the season. I loved her ever since we were introduced to her mid-Season 2. She's such an interesting, uninhibited, soulful and just overall beautiful character... also, there's the fact she's played by Lili Taylor (Oh How I Love Her). I just felt so sorry for her throughout all of Season 3. Some of her scenes were so painful. I just keep remembering back to when she's about to leave Nate and Maya to go on a cross-country journey to visit her sister, without knowing she'll never see them again. And then she just suddenly disappears off the face of the Earth, and about a month later, her body is found by a few kids, washed up on a beach - but from what's left of it, it's basically not even a body anymore. I keep remembering back to when Lisa throws Ruth her surprise birthday celebration, and it turns out to be one of the most joyous and beautiful nights Ruth has ever had the pleasure of experiencing.
I don't think any moment from film or television has affected me more than this. Honestly, it's been with me for days. Scary.
...And it has also propelled me back into my obsession with Lili Taylor! I'm so glad she still appears in the rest of the series in the occasional flashback and manifestations as a ghost.
