This is definitely true. Its usually just loud when I'm home alone, actually.

Then you're lucky, my current landlady wouldn't tolerate that. There are old people next door who would call the police, too.

We're lucky, we're in a college neighborhood so all the houses are full of equally obnoxious kids. Plus, we made a lot of friends during that house party. I don't think I'd get the cops called on me if my neighbors had a gun to their heads.

Hmm. Could work. My contacts in Detroit and Philadelphia say that another option is to make friends with the local police and negotiate times when you can make noise. But your method seems like it has a greater rate of success.
