The first problem with High School was that we had the IB (International Baccalaureate) Program. This is a international program that is for the gifted students. It pushes them to their limit and goes above and beyond to prepare them for college. The problem with having the IB program at your school is that it separates the smart kids from the regular kids. So for those who don't pass the test into the program or choose not to go into it (such as me) get the leftover teachers. So what does this mean? Well it means all of the smart kids are grouped in other classes with the great teachers and the rest are grouped into the classes with apathetic teachers and unchalenging academics.
Therefore, my classmates had at tendency towards anti-intellectualism, gangsta rap (We were white upper middle class kids in the suburb, give me a break) and sagging their pants. The teachers seem to cater to this student body and not even attempt to challenge them. (Seriously one of my freshman year vocabulary words was Space.) I found myself bored and unmotivated. I also found myself without many friends. Where I got excited about going to the library my classmates were too busy discussing how cool it was that the NewPort cigarette symbol looked like the upside down Nike Swoosh on their shoes.
