Letter to Corrigan

Here is another letter from my fictional RPG character Seb. This one is written to his old friend Corrigan.

Dear Corrigan,

Ivellios is dead. Struck down by a giant. I am at a loss.

Aran and I are at the Cloister of the Holy Shield. My heart is with Glothram back in Morningvale, and also with you, wherever you are.

After you departed in search of Cambarian we were troubled by two kenku. Filth circling Ideld's leavings. They attacked Glothram in his home and stole the shattered artifacts he brought back from the catacombs. Eemin and I were able to find their track and we follow it into the woods. Ivellios travelled with us, but was airborn and invisible. I remember I was frustrated with him.

The trail ended at a river. The kenku were waiting for us there, as was the giant, and an elf. Glothram fought the elf, and we thought we had the kenku in hand, between Ivellios, Aran and me. But Ivellios, when summoning a ball of flame upon the kenku, struck also the giant. It sped from the river and struck him down. It was carrying a stone club and its one blow destroyed Ivellios.

One kenku was down and the other fled. Glothram defeated the elf and the giant fell into a stupor. Suddenly it seemed as if we had won with ease. But Ivellios was dead far beyond the help of healing.

We recovered Ideld's relics. In fact, Maliathir recovered the artifacts, and I have forgotten entirely to mention him. He is an elf we met in town. A merchant, apparently. He offered to help us as we gave chase to the kenku and he did his part. I do not know if we should trust him, but he did return Ideld's remnants to us. It is strange and sad to meet someone new as someone dear departs.

Maliathir helped Glothram bring Ivellios' remains back to Morningvale while Aran and I travelled for the Cloister. I should thank him for that when I see him next.

The artifacts are now in safer hands here at the Cloister. Aran and I are resting now. There is little to tell, other than that we met a strange Paladin who was curious about Glothram. A strange man who wanted to know about Glothram's triumph over Ideld despite never having heard of her. His name was Algarian.

After we have rested we plan to return to Morningvale. Glothram has been raising an army, as you know, and it seems clear now that we can wait no longer to march on Brightstone and purge this tumour. I do worry about Glothram. And for Ivellios. Glothram may well seek to bring Ivellios back. You may not understand why, Corrigan, but this thought makes me very sad. As I said, my heart is with Glothram, and also my hopes that he does not do wrong.

Be well, Corrigan.

Seb
