I'm back home again. For the past two nights I've been camping out at my grandmother's. With my parents and my uncle already there, I was relegated to the study, on the floor, with the only mattress I've ever encountered that itches. Still, it was quite fun to wake up, go downstairs and enjoy some breakfast with other folks. That's not likely to happen at my own place anytime soon (since my roommate gets up about four hours after I go to sleep.)
I still haven't really paid proper attention to all the cool stuff I was given. I only really had time to take car of the most critical task: moving the incredibly smelly cheese I was given into the fridge inside a sealed bag. I can't even tell you want type it is, although I do know it's not Stilton. This is one of those cheeses that's so potent it actually has a fuzzy coating.
I'm going to save that cheese, plus the other two cheeses and the box of crackers I was given for the geeky event some friends and I are planning later this week. Since most of us were busy on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, we missed the Doctor Who Christmas Special. But you know... turn that frown into lemonade, or whatever, so now it's to be a get together on Thursday.
We (my parents and I) went shopping today. It seemed the thing to do. We spent most of the day talking about leaving and after we left we ended up spending another hour or so checking out some of the new exhibits at the ROM, which was on the way to our destination, after all.
Dad thought the new exhibits were sort of a drag. Mom was impressed with the layout. I couldn't really get past thinking about what it'll be like when the renovation is complete. Still, we all enjoyed the huge frescos from Chinese temples. I think we all agreed that it would be better once they actually got around to labelling the pieces.
Our final destination was Eddie Bauer. which I had targeted because someone gave me a $50 gift certificate, because we know they do the Boxing Day Sale thing, and because this particular store is apparently closing (or relocating, or something.) In the end this was the only store we went to, but it worked out well. I was looking for a good "shell" to wear over a fleece for winter biking, and lo, Mom found one. $228 normally, but she happened across one marked down to $128, with a %40 discount applied to the lowest price on all jackets, and $50 knocked off by the gift card. Not too shabby. I left the actual coat at my grandmothers, but I have every expectation that I'll like it once I actually start using it.
