“Scorpius?” Al’s whisper sounded impossibly loud in the silent dormitory. “Are you awake?”

Winters in northern Scotland were far colder than they were in the south of England where he had grown up, and Al suspected he would never quite get accustomed to them. He had not been out of bed more than two minutes before his toes were already frozen and his teeth chattered. “Scorpius?”

A pale white hand reached out from the bed hangings to pull them back just far enough for his friend’s pointed face to peer out. His hair was mussed by sleep and Albus’ fingers earlier in the night, and his eyes were hazy. “What are you doing out of bed, Al? You must be freezing.”

“Couldn’t sleep,” Albus replied and rubbed his arms to rid himself of the goosebumps that had sprung up at the sound of Scorpius’ sleep-addled voice.

“Get in here, then,” the blond haired boy moved over to make space in the narrow bed.

Al didn’t wait for Scorpius to ask again, and he slipped into the other boy’s warm bed before he pulled the curtains shut.

“Bloody hell! You’re freezing!” Scorpius squeaked and moved as far over as he could without falling off the bed.

Al took advantage when his boyfriend pulled away and moved into the warm, newly-vacant space in the center of the bed. “I can’t help it if you’re always warmer than I am.”

“You could if you stopped standing in the dungeons in your Gryffindor pajamas. It’s a wonder you haven’t caught pneumonia yet.”

“Yes, mother,” Al ignored the insult to his red striped pajamas and snuggled up next to him. “Now shut up so I can go to sleep.”

“I would, except you’re hogging my blankets.” Scorpius pouted, but it was broken by a squeal when Al’s cold feet touched his calves where his own pajama bottoms had been pushed up. “Bloody--- shit! Get your feet away from me!”

“I’m cold,” Al replied simply when he slipped his hands beneath Scorpius’ pajama shirt in an effort to seek out the warm skin of his back. “Warm me up?”

Scorpius sighed half-heartedly but moved closer and wrapped his arms around Albus. “Next time just stay here and don’t be so noble. It isn’t befitting of a Slytherin.” He teased, but his words were laced with a seriousness they’d avoided to this point.

“Then they’ll all know,” Al whispered quietly. It’s a conversation they’d had before. “I have to go back to my own bed so they don’t suspect.”

“You always wake up in my bed anyway.”

Al sighed and kissed his cheek. “Scorpius--”

“Just stay.” Scorpius held onto him so he couldn’t pull away.

“You’re warm,” Al admitted and pressed in closer. He never wanted to leave Scorpius’ bed, and every night he’d found an excuse to come back to it after their dorm mates were asleep. “I’ll stay tonight.”

Staying every night, though, that was something else entirely. Something Albus wasn’t ready for yet, but could be soon.
