Andrew and I gave ourselves a sick day last week and went to IKEA. I fully support a 4-day work week; non-holiday weekday days off are so magical to me. I've been steadily employed for five years come May 27th, at which point I get a COMPANY T-SHIRT and am eligible for three weeks' vacation and you better believe that I am going to have at least one beautiful, sunny week off in July or August. I am going to take my little dog down to the beach and work on some skin cancer. Now that I am over four months smoke free (hurrah! sob!) I need something to keep me feeling dangerous...
We're also thinking of maybe moving to a bigger place if at all possible but the kicker is we're doing our best to try not to raise our rent any. We're looking at a few buildings on Vaughan road, just a few blocks west of us. It's pretty ridiculous: we live a block east of Bathurst, near Spadina & St. Clair, in swanky "Forest Hill," where a bag of milk is $6.50 and a frozen can of juice will set you back $3, but a block west of Bathurst, Vaughan & St. Clair, is "ghetto" and "dangerous." Our rent is somewhere around $970 for a one bedroom and we've found a two bedroom over there for $1000. We haven't visited yet, so it could be too small despite its abundance of walls, and it's going to move us a bit further than our current five-minute walk to the subway, but hey: more space at the same price and I would be in walking distance to Mom and Pop grocers and away from the snobs that stroll up and down Spadina with designer purses and designer scowls.
That silver sparkly thing is my iPod wallet: $5 at Future Shop and so much cuter than the $30 rubber skin. Who says I haven't got bling?
The gold pouch is supposed to be a makeup bag but this geek girl has it stuffed with a card reader, SD cards, a camera, tripod, and iPod charging equipment.
I would be more upset to leave this at home than my wallet.
Pictures on the wall beside my computer. Includes a photo each of my brother and sister (sorry, little brother Johnny...), a couple of Andrew and I, my Modest Mouse roadtrip homages, a photo that won my friend Joel publication in Eye Weekly, and a folded, framed NDP poster from a campaign Andrew helped with.
Nice..I mean Spice rack!
When the cashier rung this up for $8 she felt the need to break my heart by telling me it had been on sale for $2 a few weeks prior :(
Andrew works in HR and I suppose has to make real certificates for his employees, but chose instead to award me a certificate for Excellence in Girlfriendship. I have to admit, I'm a pretty good girlfriend. I enjoy the June Cleaver KoolAid and like to do all the things feminists fought so hard to keep me from having to do.
So I realize that I never really talk about television except for those which air weekly (Lost ;___; How will I wait til April 24th?) and even then I barely do.. Just so you know, my ANTM favourites are, in order, Lauren (punk rock hahaha); Whitney (fat pretty blondes FTW); and Claire. I'm curious as to which shows everyone is into lately.. we don't have cable but we have hi-speed internet, and download everything we can get our dirty little hands on. We're making our way through the following lately:
- the Sopranos
- Entourage (I love this show so much.)
- Six Feet Under
- the Wire (pretty good, only a few episodes in)
- The IT Crowd (cheesy britcom)
I feel like we have been watching other shows too, but I can't think of them right now. Exciting, aren't I? Spring is coming.. I'll get better.
