"Would you just get off my back?" Even if she wasn't facing her, Arianna could already tell that her younger sister, Christina, was rolling her eyes at her. "I already told you, I don't want to go out to..celebrate, or whatever it is you want to do tonight."
Christina sighed as deeply as she could, crossing her arms and leaning against the kitchen counter while Arianna dried dishes. "You do realize you're single again, right?"
"So? I'm still a mother."
"Your son's not here."
"That doesn't mean I can just take off, just like that."
"God, Ari, you make it sound like we'd just be leaving Liam here by himself. He's in Aspen, with Will, and he's having a blast. You need to do the same."
Arianna finally turned around, sighing. "Who says I'm not having fun?"
Despite her best attempt to hold back a laugh, Christina failed. Miserably. "You're kidding, right? You've been working non stop for months now, and when you're not working you're here with Liam.."
"I don't mind it, Chris." Arianna set down the kitchen towel she had been using. "I'm a mother. A single mother now, and I'm taking care of my son. I don't mind it."
"I know you don't, and that's not what I'm saying." Christina walked over to stand in front of her older sister, and took her by the shoulders. "All I'm saying is you need to have fun from time to time too. It's not a bad thing, and I wish you'd stop feeling guilty for it." Arianna seemed to be changing her mind, very slowly, so Christina did the only thing she could think of doing now. She pouted. "Please? Come on, Ari. Just for a couple of hours at least, we'll have fun. It's New Year's Eve! You can't spend it at home, by yourself, drinking wine."
Arianna blinked. "How did you know that's what I was going to do?"
"You're kind of predictable, sissy," Christina responded with a smirk. "So, should I start picking out your outfit?"
For a moment Arianna didn't answer. Not until Christina pouted again, and this time it was her the one that sighed deeply. "Just a couple of hours, okay? And no drinking."
"We'll see about that. Now come on, let's see if you have something decent to wear!"
Rolling her eyes, Arianna didn't even fight Christina as she pulled her towards her bedroom. New Years Eve or not, she had a feeling it was going to be a long night.
