Under the tree...

Marc doesn't question Arianna when he passes by the family room and sees her laying under the Christmas tree. There's just a small smile on his face as he shakes his head, but he still doesn't say anything even when he walks up to her and lays down next to her. Using an arm as a pillow, he stares up at the tree as well and doesn't turn to his sister until she turns to look at him.

She smiles, a small grateful smile for not questioning her, or pressuring her how her mother had made her feel during dinner. Christmas Eve is here, and all she's trying to do is keep up a good attitude for her son and for her siblings. It's not their fault that she's missing Will today, even if a part of her wonders why. It's not their fault she isn't into Christmas at all this year.

"Remember when we used to do this when we were little?" Arianna asks instead, turning her attention back to the tree so she could get lost in memories of Christmas past. Back when things were simple and easy. "Mom thought we'd do something to the tree, or the presents."

He shrugs, sighing under his breath. "Mom worries. That's what she does." He pauses only enough to kiss her temple and wrap his free arm around her. "But it doesn't mean she's always right."

Arianna chuckles quietly and nods slightly, now more than ever glad that she can always count on her brother. For laying down under the tree, staring at the lights, or just for support.

Or, some times, simply for both.
