The Great Write Meme

Ok, so I thought it would be fun to do a little informal critique on each other's fiction. The idea stemmed from blessed_beast's The Icon Truth Meme, for icon makers.

You come up with amazing plot twists and plot devices. Your dialogue is untouchable, and you bring amazing chemistry to your characters. Sometimes I do feel like your descriptions are a bit much, like you're trying too hard. This is an example:

Ashes dissolved into the thick black of a deserted city street, their owner held loosely by painted fingers encircled with leather. Moving suddenly toward the heavens, the lit object adjoined to a hellish mouth, chapped in scarlet by the dry cold. The hand brought it down again, and freed it from its grasp entirely.
To me this paragraph could be said so much simpler and still be atmospheric. But I think that's a matter of personal preference. :) I really do admire your writing a lot, you're not afraid to take risks and that's part of what makes your work so enjoyable.

Funny that you mention that quote, considering that a little while ago, I looked back on it and realized how cluttered some of my older writings are. I know it is due to my artistic mentality, and I've learned now to be more precise with my words, allowing much of the action to be open to the reader's imagination. I'm glad you brought that up because I did notice it before and thought some improvement had to be done. Thank you, whomever you are. ;)

Most of my work is up at my oft-neglected website and not at my journal.

I really enjoy reading most of your fics.
The stories that you write are always believeable even when they are not canon. Like Buffy/Lindsey.

I also like the fact that you don't write smut, especially since smut seems to be so rampant in any fandom nowadays. Not that smut's bad but it's nice to see someone really work on developing a plot and the characters.

Your characterization is always on the ball.

I like that you can make me *see* the characters. I believe your stories, and that's something that doesn't happen as often as I'd wish.

Your stories are STORIES. Like, full-out novels that really ought to be printed out and read by turning the page, just you know, if we're going for the full-out story feel. Characters are developed well; your dialogue is untouchable - natural, and consistent with characterization. Sometimes I feel like there might be a little overtelling and less showing, but it doesn't detract from the writing. Overall, really enjoyable and humorous!

When you get a storyline going, it really *goes* and it totally sweeps the reader away. Sometimes the characters seem a little silly, but that's just more the fact that they're human than a characterization problem.
I love everything I've ever read from you, even when you've said you didn't like it much. You can write something that you say has no plot, and I'll never even think of that, because I'm too busy giggling to myself at the banter or chewing my lip, hoping everything will work out (even when I know it won't).

You write first class dialouge! You can give more characterisation to your protagonists with one paragraph of dialouge than others can in four paragraphs of densely written description, and you manage to be hilariously funny at the same time.

I love reading your stories. They give just a glimpse into the lives of the characters.

I don't always comment, but I do read most of them.

Your writing has really, really matured, and by that I mean you take risks now and you're not afraid to write the raw and gritty. You have an eye for including great details that brings me deeper into your writing. I think your strength is definitely writing emotion. You've got your finger on the pulses of your characters, and it comes through. I can never question your writing; I totally trust you, the writer.

Your writing is FABULOUS, and I only wish that you would write more! I read your other feedback and I agree, you're very good at writing intense emotional scenes without making them sappy or overdone. Bravo!

Your fiction is undeniably thoughtful and emotional, and you rule the pen of angst. Yet sometimes I find that you don't venture much into the unknown, sticking within your comfort zone. The characters either feel incredibly tense, or hurt; it's often like you've stuck them in a nervous box. You write wonderfully, by all means, so I'm just giving you a little push. ;)
