not this week, it's not. think inigo montoya and the man in black, after the man in black emerges, exhausted, from climbing the cliff wall and starts to draw his sword: "wait, wait -- wait until you are ready."
it's a tradition that goes back a bunch of quadrennials, as far as national political conventions are concerned: on your party's week, the other candidate steps off. (not that this stopped fox news, giuliani, etc. last week.)
mccain released an ad congratulating obama last week. this week obama said palin's family was off limits. the candidates have to rise above it.
sure, their respective staffs can still get snarky at one another, but obama himself can't actually spray-paint epithets on mccain's house while he's having friends over for dinner. it's rude. or, at least, the more obama shrugs it off this week, the classier he'll look in the long run.
be patient. next week, sure, all hell breaks loose. but at the moment, we're still in the land of the christmas armistice.

ShadowCaptain is, as always, right. Trying to upstage the RNC looks petulant. It might help in the short run, but Obama knows how to play the long game.
They hit the ground running Friday. If the Democrats don't have something designed to knock McCain's speech out of the news cycle, then I'll be worried.
