To everyone who has any idea, which job/career is more in demand and more stable - as a web designer/developer or graphic artist?I am in need of any advice. I plan to take a certificate program and right now, I'm not so sure which of the two should I take -- which of the two will be more profitable to me as I'm still on that stage of my life ( Read more... )

I don't know, but I would take the one I feel more passionate towards. Call me a stupid mindless dreamer or something, when it comes to dreams and career, I always tend to follow my heart. I know the consequences of being passionate towards dreams, but if I really really like what I am doing, shrimping and saving beats being stuck with a job I do not feel anything for. I hope to get out of school and get the job I want to. :]

I mean different people have different views. But it seems that Web Designer is more stable, at the beginning, compared to Graphic Designing. If you want to become a graphic designer, you can start in a graphic designing company, the pay is more stable than freelancing, but the designs you are doing are pretty limited, since you are not the choosing what you want. You can start there, gain lots of connection through the company and then when you have enough connections you can do freelancing.

This is something I found on the net:

Web Designer V.S Graphic Designer, short article, but it briefly talks about Web Designing using our left brain and Graphic Designing using our right. So if you prefer and like using your left, you can go for Web Designing and vice versa, but if you like a challenge, you can go for Web, even if you are right brained.

But really the only advice I can give is to follow your heart and dreams. ^^

Oh dude, I totally get you! I know what you mean... My first love has always been arts and I'm "stuck" in a job with no artistic flair whatsoever. For two years now I've been ranting about it, whining about how I'm so not cut out for the job I'm in right now.

And now, finally, I get to have the courage to take the first step in achieving my dreams. Yay! xD

Thanks for the article, dude! It helped a lot. :) Actually, I'm kind of in between. I get the web designer's side, as well as the graphic artist's side too. Idk... but from what I've noticed nowadays, you have to have both sides for you be "in demand" in the industry. That's what I'm trying to achieve, by taking up web designing courses (now I've finally decided on it). I can still practice my passion for arts by... well, practicing.

Thanks so much for the advice! *hugs*
