A view of the sea again

I came across a beautiful expression just now in the book I'm reading (the Norwegian translation of the Irish classic Cré na Cille - 'Churchyard Clay' - by Máirtín Ó Cadhain). There's a conversation taking place about a dying man, and one of the characters says of this man that måtte hans sjel få havblikk - in English probably something along the lines of 'may his soul attain a view of the sea'.

I have never heard this expression in Norwegian before, and I'm wondering if it is (or has been) in regular use somewhere, perhaps in a specific dialect area, or if it is something the translator came up with. (If there's anyone who know the expression from before - in any language really - I'd be happy to hear about it.)

The imagery of it reminds me of the graveyard by the sea that I visited on the west coast of Ireland (photo below), and of this quote from the Aubrey/Maturin series by Patrick O'Brian.
