Title: Melt
Characters/Pairing: The Doctor and April
Word Count: 177
Rating: G
Summary: The Doctor and April used to go out for ice cream.
Notes: I was trying to write while stuck in Orlando, and Evie gave me a prompt. Which was "bubblegum", with the Doctor and anyone else. The theory was that it would be fluffy. ...The theory was wrong.
Disclaimer: The Doctor belongs to the BBC, April belongs to
starletfallen and the Rift belongs to its own damn self.
April used to find him, wherever he was in the city, when he wasn't doing anything particularly important. He'd be wandering, and suddenly she'd appear, as if by magic - more exceptionally strong psychic abilities than that, but who was counting? She'd tag along, like a puppy, chattering cheerfully or just following in silence. More often than not, she'd ask if they could get ice cream on the way back.
It was bubblegum ice cream the last time, the kind with pieces of bubblegum in it, and April shared though he didn't really want any. She told him chewing bubblegum relieved stress, and they gave it to soldiers in World War II for that reason, and then she blew bubbles and all but dared him to pop them.
She doesn't do any of that anymore. The Doctor goes wandering again, though everyone worries about him doing so. There's no need to worry, though. All he does is go to get ice cream, only to find he doesn't really want it. He ends up watching it melt.
