Visiting Mum and Apartment Hunting // Open

She stood outside the small house in the small but pleasant neighbourhood she'd grown up in. Her mother still was terrible at keeping the flowers going, every other lawn and garden was perfectly manicured but her mothers looked like someone had dowsed it with fire, not water. At least some things are the same. In the driveway she saw a few familiar ( Read more... )

Searching for offices in London was not exactly the easiest thing to do. Especially for a young witch who spent most of her time in forests and gardens. Lucky for her, Luna had no problem wondering around lost for a while. She hadn't planned to see Travis quite yet, she just wanted to get a feel for where she would be going.

She had been looking directly up; staring at the large buildings and admiring the beautiful architecture, when she ran smack into another body.

A gentle gasp escaped her lips as she almost fell; steadying herself at the last minute and shaking her hair out of her face.

"No no! I'm sorry, I wasn't even watching where I was walking." She cocked her head to the side and then smiled.

"Angelina? Well isn't this a nice surprise!" She reached her hand down to help up the familiar Gryffindor.

"Luna?" Angelina felt a little stunned at running into someone she knew but smiled gladly for it. Taking the offered hand she heaved to her feet, dusting off her clothes and making sure to grab the paper.

"Funny bumping into you here." She joked, painfully corny on purpose, or so she hoped.

"How are you?"

Her large eyes were bright with her smile as she laughed airily at Angelina's joke.

"Oh I'm fine. Just exploring the city. How about you?" She asked kindly.

"Looking for an apartment. I've been staying on Fred's couch but if I do that much longer I'll have a broken back." Luna's smile was infectious and Angelina felt like smiling made her feel a bit brighter.

"I think I've looked at five of these places and their either more expensive than I can afford or the size of a shoe box."

"I understand how frustrating looking for a place is. I was actually heading to see a friend about building me a house. I want to live in London, but I have to have a large garden, you see. I can't live without a nice large garden with room for a pond and a green house. So I've just decided to build my perfect place."

Her eyes brightened then, "You know, Angelina, I'm staying at my Father's old house right now. There's an extra room if you're interested. Though, it's not in London, it's in Devon." She shook her head. "Not that it's much of a problem being so far. I always just apparate where I need to go anyway." She laughed to herself airily.

"Building a house? In London?" Angelina almost gave a double take. "How are you going to go about that?"

But the sound of a garden in the city was one Angelina could get used to. And her offer was as well. Thinking about a bedroom of her own was nice, but an empty house filled her with dread.
"Thank you for the offer. I might take you up on it, but I should still look just in case. It'd be nice to have my own place again." Looking at the building she could see it was the right address.
"A garden in your own house sound wonderful. Did you want to tell me more about it? Over that coffee? Are you free, say now?"

"I have a friend that is a magical architect. It's a little more expensive than muggle architecture, but I need my garden. And to build a house in London big enough, it needs to go up, not out." She gestured upwards as she said it and then laughed.

She nodded politely at the turn down. She understood wanting to be on your own, of course.

"Oh I'd love to. Are you sure now is okay? I don't want to be a bother."

"Now would be perfect." She thought, folding the paper and stuffing it into her bag. "I could use a break from looking at apartments I love but can't afford. Or can afford but would rather sleep on the street." Angelina joked with a laugh, smiling warmly at Luna.

"Do you know what neighbourhood you'd like to build in?" Angelina knew it would probably have to be a magical one, but there were so many nice areas to choose from. She couldn't deny the lovely distraction Luna's plans provided.

Despite getting used to the idea of having 'friends' Luna was surprised when Angelina agreed to go. She was surprised at the offer at all! But she always felt like people asked to go 'now' because they assumed people were busy and knew they would decline.

She was so giddy about it though that she hooked one arm through Angelina's and began heading down the street in the direction of a great coffee house she knew of. That served tea, because coffee was disgusting.

"I'm not sure yet. Travis Briggs is who I'm meeting, and I assume he has a better feel of where I should go. He works at an office that does magical and muggle houses, so He'll know."

There was always something so lovely about the joy Luna took in the simplest of things. What could have been an average stroll down the road now felt like they were two young school girls again.

"Travis... was he at Hogwarts?" The name sounded familiar but she couldn't place a face to it. There were so many of them after all and with being gone two years so much seemed to escape her. But she had a feeling if she saw him Angelina would remember something.

"Now, I can attest that Muggle neighbourhoods are actually really nice." The words almost felt unfamiliar in her mouth, Angelina feeling like her mother. But she went on, taking Luna's lead down the road. "And they always have some of the nicest lawns surprisingly."

She nodded to her question. "Yes I believe he was in your year--but I honestly have no idea." She said without losing her smile. "It seems like the longer I've been gone, the more detail about Hogwarts escapes me."

She didn't mind of course, school was amazing and she wouldn't have changed her life during those years for anything, but they weren't exactly the happiest of times.

"Oh yes, I've seen a few muggle places on my own. I'm just not so sure that a muggle house would make me feel entirely comfortable." She looked at her friend. "I don't want anything huge, and my house I think will be able to be in a muggle neighborhood, but I'll need a disillusion charm for the garden, and probably my laboratory." She thought out loud.

That sounded about right. Those were the only things she absolutely needed in her house. A place to work and relax.

Angelina laughed. She understood the lack of comfort. It took years, after she knew she was a witch, to get comfortable living in her small muggle hometown neighborhood. But maybe it was for a dozen other reason.

"What in Merlin's name are you making in a laboratory*?"

She smiled and shook her head. "Nothing. I study things, and my lab lets me run test on plants." She hummed happily.

"There is so much to discover in our world. So many things that haven't been tried. Potions that need to be fixed!"
