P.S This got huge XD

“Kaz, what’s that?”

Kame froze as he was about to round the corner of the castle wall, cursing inwardly for doing so. There shouldn’t be an animosity between him and Kazu now and there wasn’t really but he still couldn’t shake the feeling that he’d never been quite forgiven for everything that had happened when they first met. Not that he blamed him for that after everything he’d done. He knew better than to push his luck though, the mutual acceptance they gave each other was enough for him.

“It’s a scar, Kala.”

Kame peeked around the corner for a second, noticing that Kala was holding Kazu’s hand with a slightly puzzled expression on her face.

“From fighting?”

“Not always but in some cases, yes.” Kazu smiled at her annoyed expression as if it was his fault that he’d been fighting too much throughout the years.

“Jun has some too.”

Kames heart panged with guilt, making him dart back behind the wall, wondering what Kazu would say in response.

“Yes well we’ve had to help each other out of some bad situations before, that’s all.” Kazu sat down in the grass, pulling Kala down with him. “But these scars show where I’ve tried to protect you and Jun and our family so I’m proud of them and I’m sure Jun feels the same.”

“Tell?”

“You want to know how I got them?” Kazu chuckled, pulling her into his lap. He pushed at the circular scar in his hand. “Have you noticed the same kind of scars on Jun’s hands?” He waited for a nod before continuing. “You know when Masaki was sick? Well me and Jun had to go look for medicine to make him better but it was at the top of a big hill covered in brambles.” He accentuated the points, trying to make it seem more like a story than a memory and so it was easier for the small girl to understand him. “The brambles weren’t normal though and they made you feel really drowsy if you got pricked by one. We got scratches along the way but when I got to the top I was foolish enough to not check where I put my hand.” He laughed at the tut he got. “Jun looked after me though when I fell asleep even though he was feeling drowsy from his own scrapes with the brambles.”

“So that one was to look after Masa?”

“That’s right.” Kazu grinned, liking that scar for another reason though he’d never tell. That was his and Jun’s secret; just how much Jun was willing to give him.

“Hmm~” Kala played with her dress before standing up in Kazu’s arms and touching his back. “What about the ones you and Jun have got here?”

Kazu thought about it for a second before remembering. “Oh! They were from when you were still tiny.” He tickled her making her sit again. “Someone bad pretending to be a friend came into the castle in the hopes of hurting us but we overpowered them.” He smiled at Kazu’s hum of approval. “When Ohno got back to congratulate us we had to let them go to show that we were trying to be peaceful but they double crossed us and tried to hurt you to get back at Jun for capturing him.” He gave her a squeeze as if reassuring she was still there. “Luckily we’d suspected something like that would happen so you were staying with Masaki and Sho at the time.”

Kala frowned, looking up. “So how did you and Jun get hurt?”

Kazu grimaced. “I was annoyed that we’d been right and knocked the other man’s weapon away but he had a second one. He caught me.”

Kala gasped as if she couldn’t imagine it before glaring. “Man hurt Kaz?”

“Not too much physically.” Kazu’s smile waned. “Just enough to get Jun to do what he wanted. He didn’t want me or you as a hostage you see, he wanted to capture Jun so that Ohno would do whatever he wanted.”

Kala tilted her head at this, not really understanding not that Kazu blamed her. “Wouldn’t Ohno have done that even if he captured you?”

“The bad man had already hurt your uncle Jin so he thought it would scare Ohno more if it was Jun.”

“Bad man didn’t get what he wanted though did he?”

“Of course not.” Kazu smiled reassuringly giving her a pat on the head. “He took Jun up to see Ohno and for a while it did look like he’d get his way. That’s when he hurt Jun’s back to make his point.” He chuckled ironically at the memory. “However, though Ohno was ready to do what was needed for them to let Jun go, Jun was having none of it. He turned it all around even though he was meant to be the one being rescued.” He chuckled at the memory. “He said that if the bad man hurt him anymore then Ohno would punish him for it.”

“That’s true. So the damsel didn’t need saving then?”

Kame almost choked with laughter over by the side lines. Of course in the stories that Kala was given Jun would seem like the damsel in distress who needed rescuing. Too bad Jun thought otherwise, he tried to laugh silently before sobering up. The memory might have gone a lot differently if Jun hadn’t been so stubborn.

“So you and Jun got hurt looking after each other and me…what about the one here on Jun?”

Kame looked around before slipping back, laying his head on the castle wall as he sat down. He’d been wondering when they’d get to that, Kala was pointing to Kazu’s waist. His mind instantly went back to the moment, his mouth drying up. Jun standing in shock in front of him, a thin line of red at his waist growing steadily by the second as it dripped down the end of his rapier towards his hands. He’d caused that scar; he’d spent the days afterwards, waiting for Jun to heal knowing that his blood was on his hands. He waited for Kazu to start talking about another ‘bad man’.

“Hmm? Oh that one. That one was my fault entirely.”

Kame’s eyes opened wide at that, hearing the sincerity in Kazu’s voice.

“Huh?” Kala seemed to mimic his thought process.

“I got into a fight, it was reckless really.” Kazu laughed, pulling away to look at her properly. “I wasn’t meant to marry Jun you see and I was so jealous at the person he was meant to that when he challenged me to a fight I accepted readily. He was just as jealous of me as I was of him.” He ruffled Kala’s hair. “We were just as bad as each other you see?”

“I guess, but how did Jun get hurt then?”

“He was angry at us for treating him that way. He thought it should be his choice who he wanted to be with and that solving it with a fight wouldn’t make him happy. But we were too intent on fighting to listen to him so he jumped into stop us…” Kazu’s sight went into the middle distance, probably seeing exactly what Kame had a few seconds before only he thought Jun’s wound was his fault.

“And ended up being the one getting hurt?” Kala huffed as Kazu nodded. “Well you were silly. Of course Jun would pick you.” She stopped for a second. “What happened to the other guy?”

“I know that now.” Kazu pondered for a second. “I think…I hope he’s happy. It took us awhile to get along after that but he never meant to hurt Jun and he regrets it as much as I do.”

“Oh, so he was a good person?”

“Once I got to know him, yes.” Kazu smiled before hearing a shuffling noise and looking around, his smile changing for a second as he noticed who it was. “Oh, Kame, how long have you been there?”

“A little while, sorry I was listening to the stories. I didn’t want to interrupt.” He smiled as Kala gave a happy shout and came to hug him; they didn’t spend as much time together as she did with the others. He might have to change that now, he decided.

“Silly, you should have just come and sat with us.” He patted the floor next to him. “Unless you’re busy that is?”

“No, not really.” Kame still felt odd after what he’d just heard but he walked over anyway, Kala’s hand in his.

“Do you have scars too, Kame?”

“Hmm? Oh yes, a few I guess.” Kame sat down, Kala sitting between the pair of them. “But Kazu seems better at telling stories than I am.”

“Oh?” Kazu’s eyes sparkled for a second as he realised. “You know Kala’s really not going to like Hiroki when she gets older if I keep telling her stories about him.”

“And we care because?” Kame raised an eyebrow. Both of them had almost lost their husbands because of him, he had no sympathy for him.

“Ha, point taken.”

“Hiro?”

“Hiroki, he’s the prince in the country north of us.” Kazu continued as if they hadn’t left off from their stories. “He’s the bad man I was talking about earlier.”

Kala’s face fell into a dark look again. “He hurt Kame too?”

“And Jin.” Kame said, feeling a light rush of happiness at her concern. “But we’re all ok now, right?”

“I still want to know.” Kala crossed her arms as if that ended the discussion.

“Alright, alright. Well Hiroki and his father started a war with us which Kame and Jin got involved in. Kame got hurt…” Kazu looked over at Kame, not really knowing the whole story but Kame just showed her the scar he had and asked him to continue. “Jin got angry at them hurting him and got very reckless which is when Hiroki was able to shoot him and take him prisoner. After that Ohno went to help out in the war effort and left me and Jun here to look after the city. Which is when Hiroki tried a sneaky approach and came to see us here.”

“Which is when he hurt you and Jun?” Kala nodded, happy she understood. “I don’t like him; he sounds bad like one of the witches you told me about. Did he get punished like they did?”

“I guess you can say that. Jun definitely paid him back for hurting Jin.”

“Huh, I didn’t know that.” Kame smiled, it was so strange how Jin and Jun’s sibling rivalry worked sometimes, maybe he’d have to tell Jin that point some when.

“Really? I guess Jin doesn’t either then unless he’s pretending not to know.” Kazu looked up for a second, pondering before smiling at Kala. “Hey, Kala why don’t you go ask Masaki and Sho for some of their stories? I know for a fact they’ve got some interesting ones to tell.” He grinned as Kala beamed at him before darting off, knowing that she always liked Masaki’s animated stories the best. He glanced at Kame out of the corner of his eye. “So, you were listening?”

“I wanted to know how you’d describe Jun’s wound.” Kame looked at his feet; the guilt still there even though he knew Jun at least would scold him for it.

“Yeah well I’ve blamed myself more than you for a long time.”

“You shouldn’t.”

“Neither should you.”

Kame sighed, a soft smile on his lips at Kazu’s argumentative words. “Do we agree to not blame ourselves or blame each other then? Or should it just be a mutual blame for both of us?”

“I think I can live with that.” Kazu laughed at his wording, a small feeling of relief and understanding going through them.

“We had a mutual understanding before, didn’t we? At your engagement festivities. We mutually agreed to not be friends.” Kame bit his lip, not looking over at Kazu. “Has that changed?”

Kazu tutted, fluffing Kame’s hair much like he’d done with Kala’s. “What a stupid question to ask. I see you more as a brother now. Someone that I get on with but have a sibling rivalry with every so often.” He held out his hand for Kame to take, squeezing his hand gently. “You wouldn’t say Jin and Jun aren’t friends, would you?”

Kame took the hand offered, his smile more friendly and welcoming now that the tension had broken. “I guess not.”

A/N: I hope that was what you wanted~ And if not please do request again :3 no seriously any one have requests? I read through the story and came up with some ideas myself but I'm really scared to over do it. I'll put my ideas here and please reply in the comments whether you'd like to read them or not (or maybe I should do a fail attempt at a poll again? XD) Oh and also re-reading them has made me realise how many mistakes I made o.o; I hated my writing at the time I wrote it (not that I proof read now haha) so I couldn't proof read it myself and I don't have a beta reader so I'm wondering about going through and re-editing it all :/ Does anyone have any responses to that as well?
  • Ohno meeting Nakai for the first time (and possibly second time as they met before Jun was born according to what I wrote in Checkmate ^^;)
  • Nino learning to be a street performer
  • A Shun and Toma side story? (may need help with this idea)
  • Maybe a sad story? I have an idea but this series is so fluffy I don't know whether I could do it or not XD

Anyway they're my ideas for now~ would appreciate any input ♥
