Character Name: RKN-03 Ballade

Origin: One of Wily's more specialized creations, and the second of the Rockman Killers. (More to the point, Ballade can be found in Rockman World 4 and Rockman World 5.)

Species / Kind: Robot (advanced)

Personality: Ballade is a slow and methodical thinker, capable of unusual insights for a robot of his type but nonetheless not always the sharpest pencil in the box. Despite the limitations of his programming he can be perceptive at times, and has no qualms about reacting to said perceptions appropriately regardless of the danger to himself -- traits which combine with his stubborn streak and explosive weaponry in spectacular ways.

Though hurt and confused by his treatment at Wily’s hands -- especially the onslaught of punishments after Wily discovered his sacrifice and brought him back to functionality -- it has not occurred to him to rebel; not only does his competitive streak compel him to keep trying despite having given his life already, the option of "leaving" simply has not crossed his mind.

Appearance: Armoured, Ballade stands at 5’8”and is almost completely incased by heavy armour plating. This armour is predominately a deep violet and black, with details picked out in dark gold and white; weapon-launchers mimicking the appearance of wide-mouthed plasma cannon are mounted on each gauntlet, matched by similar-looking structures on his shoulder pauldrons. His helm is notable for the wide, crescent-shaped gold horns mounted on the browplate. When armoured, Ballade’s eyes are ember-red.

Without the added bulk of his armour, Ballade is considerably less broad in the shoulders and stands around 5’4”, resembling a pale-complected human male in his mid-teens. His eyes lighten to a burning orange; his hair is short, vaguely curly, and translucently white.

History: Created by Dr. Wily as the third (and, up to this point, last) of the so-called “Rockman Killers”, Ballade’s early life amounted to little more than weeks- and months-long series of physical tests. Wily was determined to construct the ideal hunter-killer robot this time around; but the complexity of Ballade’s core programming -- which nonetheless appeared to have unexpected flaws -- required a lengthy trial phase. This flaw manifested itself all too clearly when, after his defeat at Rockman's hands, Ballade saw the truth in the blue robot's pleadings for an end to the fighting ... and promptly sacrificed himself so that Rockman could escape the rapidly-collapsing Fortress.

Furious, Wily subjected Ballade to a limiter on his actions when he was reconstructed to serve as a subordinate and guardian during the Stardroids' tenure. But the Rockman Killer has, in his slow and stubborn way, determined that he would rather prove himself than be nothing but a speedbump.
