My family sort of got a head start on Christmas this year, so I'm able to talk retrospectively, already. And what better way to reflect about how lovely this holiday was than to make a list?
1. We never really decorated our tree. First of all, we have an absolutely ridiculous one this year. It's only about six feet tall, but it's incredibly wide. (My parents, on the phone, describing it to me: "You'll love it, it's so full!!") It also looks more like an evergreen ball than a tree, lacking the normal conic shape of a Christmas tree. Now that I'm used to it, I actually really like how ugly it is. None of us really had the motivation or time to decorate it, so it just has lights, an angel, and a few ugly farm animal ornaments.
2. Mashed potatoes. AND we're making more today, yes.
3. We ate dinner kind of late on Christmas Eve, and, afterward, I suggested that we just go ahead and open presents. I think my exact words were, "Let's get this over with." So we did.
4. My mom always does the family's stockings (lolz@Gaby getting a stocking). Along with chapstick, etc., I got razor blades in mine, which is vaguely reminiscent of when I left my razor at home over fall break and asked my mom to send it - and received blades instead. A recurring theme, perhaps?
5. Santa gave me very x-rated underwear. While making my dad vaguely uncomfortable, it made for great jokes about exactly what those elves are up to in the North Pole.
6. As far as legitimate presents are concerned, I just asked for money, but I was surprised with a nice version of Lolita, among other things. Really thoughtful.
7. A Christmas Story was on, and that movie is sort of hilarious, especially when you're tired and feeling sappy. (Not to mention that the pink bunny suit reminds me of this awful bunny costume for halloween that I wore repeatedly. I get my own private laugh at that.)
