Hearing words like that honestly annoyed Squall. It was one thing to think it, but to actually hear it? Of course, the anger was not towards Guy. It was towards the reason those words were being spoken. A frown appeared on the brunette's face, before quickly vanishing as he looked back up at the source of the words. After a few seconds of studying Guy, Squall let out a sigh and buried his entire face in the palm of his hand. It felt like this entire conversation was doing nothing but creating more negative emotions for the both of them.

"Yeah, but... "

Actually, Squall had no idea what he wanted to say. He just wanted to say something that would stop... well, he was not even entirely sure. The stress, maybe? It was bad enough having to miss your home, which Squall was sure Guy was doing. Guy was probably the third person that Squall felt he could have a decent conversation with (at least... a conversation that did not involve the mercenary getting incredibly annoyed at the other person, at least once). As much as Squall had not wanted to, he had already formed a sort of respect to this man. He was smart, he was not annoyed, and he had started to become someone that Squall felt was trustworthy.

But, wait...

The start of a friendship was trust. Lowering his hand, Squall studied the table in front of him. For a moment, he looked almost worried. Had he not promised himself that he would not start to get close to anyone else... after two certain people left here?

“A warning is something I never got, you know, before he got to me…” Guy replied quietly. He still didn’t look up, just kept staring at the two condiment dispensers. “He targeted those that were my friends first… that just hurt… then I decided to do something about it, and became the next victim. And then is quieted down, no one was challenging him… then I left, and when I came back, he’d already killed a few more… Seems the less we fight, the less he kills.”

Looking up again, he made sure not to meet the Mercenary’s eyes, staring off in a random direction. “The people that had known me before, many of them were still here. And now so many of them have disappeared.” He sighed and went back to looking down.

“I am going to try and fight him in a way that won’t get anyone endangered.”

The brunette studied Guy a moment, before looking to the side. Guy really had been through a lot. Of course, everyone here had it pretty rough. That is, unless they enjoyed being here. To each their own, he supposed. Some people could have nothing for them back in their world. The mercenary's expression softened a moment, before he sighed and spoke in a low tone.

"I see..." Squall then looked at guy as he spoke, "How do you plan on doing that?"

Guy stared at the table for a few more minutes before looking up at Squall. “Well, first of all, I’m going to try and enjoy my time here... No sense in brooding all the time. It can make you sick if you do too much of that.” he replied, a small smile on his face. He then smiled a little brighter and watched the waitress bring their food to the table. He thanked her quietly and grabbed his fork, set on eating. “And I’ll do what I can to help the others feel welcome here, and help them in trying to leave, if I can. It’d be a waste to have everyone be depressed all the time as well.”

He continued to study Guy for a few minutes, even after the words had been spoken. Something about Guy was familiar. Squall wished he could place his finger on it. Something about Guy reminded Squall of home. Fortunately, it was not in a bad way. The brunette then realized he had been staring just a little, and quickly averted his eyes to the food that had been placed in front of him. Picking up his fork, he began eating silently.

Guy actually started to blush a bit when he noticed Squall staring at him quite intently. He looked down when the other did and concentrated on his food for a while.

After he finished his food, he finally looked back up, the blush quite gone now. “So how do you like it? It’s good, right?”

He had pretended not to notice the blush, but it probably did not help his case that there was just the hint of color on his cheeks by the time he looked down. When the other spoke, Squall looked up. His face was back to its normal color, by this time (which Squall was incredibly grateful for).

"Yeah..." He said, nodding as he hastily wiped his mouth off with a napkin.

He was also finished by this time. Picking up his glass, he took a sip of his drink, averting his eyes to the floor on his left as he did so.

Guy decided to keep his attention diverted to the outside now, not all too sure how to continue this conversation now. For all intensive purposes, he was embarrassed, to say the least. He watched the people walk past the window, watched the leaves fall from the trees, then saw his own reflection in the glass. And what he saw did not make him happy. He almost looked how he felt, weary, sore, and his usual smile was missing as well.

This made him frown at his own reflection and sigh quietly. “Maybe… we should put this off… till another day or something.”

A frown appeared on Squall's face as he looked back over at Guy, for a moment. Narrowing his eyes as he studied the other silently, Squall started to open his mouth to say something. Instead, he looked away and all that came out was a sigh. Maybe Guy was right. At the moment, neither of them was in any condition to help anybody else. They both looked like they were the ones in need of help.

"Yeah..."

Suddenly the brunette's hand clamped over his mouth and he began coughing. It did not last long, fortunately. The hint of a groan escaped him as he moved the hand over his mouth, to his forehead. Damn it, the headache was getting worse. With yet another sigh, Squall rested his hand on his lap and looked off to the side. Maybe he should just go home...

Home? When the hell did he start calling it that?

Guy looked at Squall, rather concerned. Seemed the other was getting sick, by the doubted Squall would own up to that. He sighed himself and nodded slowly.

“I don’t think we’ll get anything else done today. How bout we call it a day and go home?” he suggested, trying to sound as unconcerned as possible. If Squall was getting to be sick, Guy didn’t want to offend him by forcing his help on him.

“I’ve got some things I need to get before we can compile a proper list anyways, alright?”

The brunette nodded and sighed, before standing. He would go rest. Hopefully whatever this was, would not become severe. Briefly scratching the back of his head, he glanced at Guy a moment, before looking away again.

"Alright. Let me know when you're ready."

With that, he gave a quick wave and headed for the door. He wanted to get home as soon as possible. His headache was becoming worse and worse. Just before he reached the door, he started coughing, again. Again, it quickly passed. Sighing in slight frustration, he pushed open the door and left.
