Losing My Blood / The Youth Group Pt. 2

Oct 10, 2001 21:11

I came into school today and Ken and Toriski were talking about how they were giving blood at the blood drive that was in the school today. They asked me if I was going to...I hadn't signed up but I went into the office and did just that (It's called missing classes to get poked...then eat cookies and drink juice).

I ended up in the same time slot as Ken (9:00). So we went there and I ended up getting the run around about my Asthma. I wasn't exactly sure if Asthma was considered a lung disease or not so I asked the lady at the desk. She said that it was. So I marked that I had a lung disease. I get to the next station where they look over the form and ask you questions (and prick your finger). The woman asked me what lung disease I had. I told her Asthma. She said asthma wasn't a lung disease and changed it on my form. I get to the chair where they're going to take blood. They asked about the lung disease question and why it was all scribbled on and no was finally marked. I said I had asthma and they told me that asthma WAS a lung disease.

Before I actually gave blood, I had to eat and drink something because I hadn't yet that morning. They had to ask me a bunch of stupid questions too. I'm sorry, but I haven't had sex with a man since 1977. I got that out of my system long before the 70's.

They then started sucking my blood out. They gave me this little stress reliever to make the blood come out (you squeeze it). However if you squeeze it as often as they tell you, your arm will start to hurt and you'll feel funny. Everyone I talked to said they tell you to squeeze it too often.

After we gave blood, Ken and I milked the juice and cookie thing. We had stayed there 40 minutes longer than we were supposed to and then Coach Wiley finally kicked us out. I tell you, it takes a special kind of person to get kicked out of a blood drive.

I also went to the Youth Group again with Kari tonight. I had fun again. I'm really enjoying it and I think they're going to start seeing more of me each week. Kari said I had to sing tonight and I did. Why? I have no idea. I suck at singing. Laurana knows that at least *L*.

Anyway, I enjoyed myself and I don't know... I feel happy when I leave. It's very different for me...

I guess a family tradition was continued tonight. My Grandfather Lindsay's name is on a plaque by the office of the Church because he was one of the people instrumental when the Church first moved to it's current location and now my name is on the Church's wall as well.... Well, it's in ink and written on the wall of the youth group.

Anyhoo...
