The Gods of the Old World become the Devils of the Modern World

Science has coined the term 'Compassion Fatigue'. It's where you just get tired of caring for others, exhausted of and by and from empathy. In short, it's a five-dollar word for being out of fucks to give.

Good news: My father's credit rating has gone up, so much so that he qualifies as a high-risk loan candidate (as opposed to a 'get out of my office before you drop my score by sheer association' candidate). We are going forward with two different lenders and basically seeing which one gets back to us and with what terms. Even if we get the terms and confirm on Monday, we're still looking at a month minimum before we can move into whatever property he buys, assuming we even find a place to try to buy.

Bad news: the DA at Durham broke the fucking judge. My dad's public defender brought the court order to the judge today, he judge requested/demanded her presence, and she proceeded to lawyer so goddamn hard, he judge literally threw his hands in the air and said 'I'm done with this'. I mean real literally, not modern, watered down literally, this superior court judge gave the fuck up because this woman argued over the absolute tiniest, most minute details of the release order ("We don't know which flash drives belong to which member of the family" - actual quote).
The DA wrote and told us that we simply have to get a Chapel Hill/Orange county lawyer to apply for a court order there. That MAY be an easy thing, if Chapel Hill/Orange Country doesn't care (and all evidence would indicate they don't) and if the Durham County people (IE this one goddamn DA) aren't too involved. But that still requires us to have several hundred/thousand dollars to pay the legal fees.

For what should be good and not-bad news, I sure feel awful.

family, charm of life, small hours
