Raleigh by Night

What did we learn tonight?

- Just because the NC State Parkour Team are health nuts doesn't mean they like to eat healthy.

- Jagger Bombs suuuuuuuck.

- I will pimp MAGfest shamelessly, especially to fans of live music.

- It shocks people when, asked to explain their senior-level classes, you understand what they're talking about.

- To a drunk, Voltron and Optimus Prime look a lot alike.

- It's amazing what girls will wager when they're sure you won't take a bet, and then succeed.

- Occupy Raleigh people are really egalitarian about law enforcement. They're also extremely grateful when given a blanket.

- There are few things in life quite like discovering a note you wrote to yourself years ago and hid in public.

- At 1am, the Silent Horror soundtrack is goddamn terrifying.

- It's a strange experience to go inside a completed building you toured when it was still being erected.

- Raleigh buildings are getting a lot taller.

- Everybody's an anime fan.

- Likewise, everybody knows the lyrics to 'One Headlight' by the Wallflowers.

If you've never been to Raleigh NC, you need to remedy that. I've been all over the world, to four continents, and I've seen some beautiful cities. But Buenos Aires is a lot like Hong Kong. DC, Atlanta, and New York could be fraternal twins. Salt Lake City and Louisville are so similar, it's unsettling. But I've never been anywhere quite like Raleigh.
Raleigh by night is an experience all its own. And on a night like this past night, when the wind is blowing fierce and it's cool enough for a jacket without requiring anything heavier, the true beauty of Raleigh blossoms. The urban landscape is like no other - towering buildings of a thousand points of light dotted with trees and century homes. Long shadows with heavy accents are everywhere. Architecture that changes from one block to the next. Corporate strongholds sharing streets with tiny mom&pop shops.
Raleigh by night is an experience all its own. You aren't likely to make a friend (unless it's the Occupy Raleigh people), but you will experience something you've never known before. And you'll see a beauty as unique as you can imagine.
