Thoughts on the new BATB, after catching the pilot:
The names and the barest bones of the concept are the only real elements they kept, it's definitely a different show. No tunnels, no Father (although Vincent has his medical background.) They've gone a little bit Incredible Hulk, a little bit (WB) Tarzan, a little more cop show.
I could like this one. It won't be the original one, and the fact that the names are the same is jarring and might be an issue, but I can probably get past that.
Just like I can probably get past the fact that Kristin Kreuk doesn't look appreciably different (to me) than she did while playing a high school student on Smallville, and thus it's a little hard to wrap my head around the idea that she's a homicide detective. Those are probably the only two things I solidly disliked from the pilot.
The fact that Vincent looks more human normally but hulks out rather more noticeably than he did in the original works for me.
Catherine Chandler as younger, and a cop instead of a lawyer also works - certainly she's got more reason for the investigation she's doing. Also, I rather liked that she's tough enough to fight off two scary government types but at the third, she's outnumbered. That keeps the "my character is larger than life" thingy we see so much of on TV going without making it too ridiculous.
Jury's still out, but not as far out as I'd expected it would be. I notice a lot of familiar names in the production credits, that might help this show. We shall see.
