Uniklubi Jussi&Teemu, Radio Nova, 16.09.08

Feb 18, 2009 20:33

Apart from the MTV3-appearence, Jussi and Teemu also had an interview on Radio Nova.
This is what the interview was about ... in English. :) It's as much word-to-word translation as possible, but sometimes there are a few parts that are just translated in summary.

Note: Nightingale posted a few annotations to my translation in UK's official Forum. I added her annotations at the end of the translation in a second LJ-cut.

Jussi & Teemu
Finnland, Radio Nova 16.9.2008

M: Moderator
M2: the other (the girl)
J: Jussi
T: Teemu
(sori if I’m mistaking Jussi for Teemu or the other way round, but sometimes I got a little confused who's saying what)

M: Uniklubi went straight to #1 with their album Rakkautta ja Piikkilankaa in the Finnish charts and now, after three successful records - two of which sold platinum - uncountable concerts and 5 years later the band releases their compilation-record Kaikki mitä mä annoin 2003-2008. Good Morning to singer Jussi Selo and Bassist / second songwriter Teemu Rajamäki!
T: Good morning
J: Morning
M: [note: *too fast, too much - guess he says something about the interview being to early in the morning now that everyone's at school/work, and that the interview will be put online later*]
Okay, so on the compilation you'll find, besides the hits, two new Songs, the music videos are on a DVD as well as the documentary Irti potilaasta ~ I'd like to know what sort of documentary it is and how on earth you came to think of that name!

T: That's from... well between the first and second record we had a tour that lasted almost 2 ½ years and we didn't have any really long breaks or anything, and so the name comes from those Doctor's-Series when they say Clear! and then the patient gets electrical shocks for reanimation purposes, and that's where Irti potilaasta is from.
M: So what kind of experience was it to tour for such an extremely long time?
J: One could say that the personal ... perseverance came to a maximum.
T: Yeah, we've been reaching limits...
M: Like, there's one point at which nothing works anymore at all?
T: Like that, and then nothing matters... no, but you get to a point when, after 2½ years and maybe 250 shows your doing the last show and, going from the stage at the end, you're just happy to finally be able to go home...
M: [note: i don't know what he says there, but he lists that the tour bus, the fans, the women and the hotel rooms are ... - something. I don't know ,)]
M2: So you can say that you all know each other very well. Do you have to face any disagreements during your tours? Let's say... Jussi always goes, 'look, guys, I’m the singer, I'm getting a room on my own...“
T: Yeah that's what it's been like from the start *everyone's laughing*
J: No, but...
M2: What are you fighting about?
J: We're not actually fighting with each other. It's good then, when it's about any big things then I guess we all know to be silent when it's time to be silent, and then we don't really have a problem...
T: We just know each other's borderlines and we don't need to provoke each other anymore or something like that...
M: Right, like, when Jussi says something the rest of the band remains silence *everyone's laughing*, and then things are clear right from the start!
So, now you're going to release the compilation and the next step would either be to go into the studio and start producing the new album OR is the compilation going to be some sort of testament and you're taking a break meanwhile? [note: That’s not what he says, but you get the point] - What’s your next step?
J: The new record. Next month we're going into the studio and then at the beginning of the next year there's going to be the new single
T: We had a 8 month's break in between our second and third record and the batteries are still high enough to go on for a few years ,)
[note: At this point, there's a long part about Jussi's hat *laughs* I don't really get everything, but first it's about Jussi wearing his hat basically all the time, even in summer and then the moderator says that you can already see that from Jussi's lyrics because he's obviously always freezing and the moderator tells something about his girlfriend who said that no man should ever be given such a hat (for some reason), and Teemu talks about an old man from Tornio but... - I have know idea where they're getting at XD]
M2: Speaking of clothes, from this Friday onwards there's going to be your merchandise 'Autumn Collection' *everyone's laughing*, do you yourselves have a word in what sort of shirts and thing are produced and what your fans are wearing?
J: Yeah we do think about that together, we sit down and plan what's going to be next...
T: Right, and together with the new compilation there's some new layout-theme, then the new website has been online for a few days... but actually it's still some sort of transition period because in the beginning of the next year there's going to be the new Single, and then the fourth record, and then there's also going to be a discography on the page, and all other important information.
M2: Uniklubi.net looks really good!
T: Thanks
[note: The moderator says that they're going to play the single, Rakkaudesta Hulluuteen, next and says that the compilation is a really good one. If I got it right he reads out the band's expression of thanks in the booklet, but he says that they'd forgotten to write something. He lists three things, the first one I don't really understand, the second is concerning the video for Rakkautta ja Piikkilankaa and the third about Huomenna, which is always played in Karaoke-Bars, and everyone's laughing. I think both Jussi and Teemu say that they're going to add these things on the next record and Teemu suggests that Huomenna be taken out of the bars so that they don't sing it anymore, everyone's laughing again and in the end the moderator just thanks them and they say goodbye. Then the song is played and afterwards, the two moderators shortly talk about the interview again, saying that it's been nice]

...And as I said, Nightingale's annotations can be found
* about Jussi's woollen hat: the (male) moderator was sitting in a bar wearing a bit similar hat and some guy kept on telling the mod's girlfriend "never trust a man with such a hat, never trust a man... etc.)

* The Tornio story. Teemu explains that in general around Finland people have accepted their look (hats, clothes with details in metal) but in Tornio, when they were sitting outside the hats hanging barely above their eyes, smoking cigarettes an elderly couple passed by and the old guy started to comment on the guys' looks. His wife then told him "Kalevi, don't disturb the young ones!".

* About the cover booklet, the moderator pretends to be pissed off because they don't mention his name under the "Band wishes to thank" header. He reminds the guys that he was the one to give them some sort of media training (what not to say when interviewed etc.), that he "gave" his ex-girlfriend to be an actor on RJP video and in addition he always sings Huomenna in a certain karaoke bar. --- and to make up the omission of the mod's name, the guys promise to take care that Huomenna will be removed from the karaoke bar's song selection so that the mod wouldn't need to sing it anymore.
