I've been sitting on my butt for so long, I'd forgotten how much I love interval training. Having a 5 year old prevents me from jogging outside but when she's asleep, my habit had been to get on the treadmill, especially in the evenings. Problem is, that even with music, I tend to get bored or at least impatient, watching the little clicks move around the track, wanting them to go faster. So then I found intervals and discovered it works very well for me. A lap at 4mph, a lap at 5ph, back down to 4mph, up to 6mph and so on. I get the mileage in, it takes me less time and it amuses me to see how fast the clicks go around the dial. It's the simple things that make me happy (grin).
Anyway, managed 3.25 miles today in 43:27. Yes, I know that's slow but it's a start. Definitely better than being a spud. And I like the feeling afterward. Sweaty, hot, tired yet satisfied and accomplished. Tomorrow maybe, I shoot for 4 miles and stay there for a few days and work on whittling my time down. The relay is only 1/5 of a mile but I need to practice. Besides, who runs with one arm up usually anyway? Gotta work on that.
