2016 needs to get its act together

It's been a horrible month of death. In addition to the big ones (Bowie, Rickman, and now Frey), and some notable smaller ones (David Marguiles of Ghostbusters comes to mind), I found out that one of my favorite character actors, Richard Libertini (Awakenings and countless TV shows) died at the age of 82 on January 7. Cancer. Again. Glen Frey had ( Read more... )

I'm fairly certain you don't do Facebook, but I suspect you'll appreciate my cover photo all the same. Because yeah, this year is some serious BS so far.

The link won't let me see it, but I saw your comment in fragbert's journal.

Blah, I must have pulled the wrong link. Glad you saw it, though.

And the drummer from Mott the Hoople.

This can stop any time now.

And Andy White, the session drummer who played with the Beatles on Love Me Do.

Enough already.

Motorhead's drummer, Philthy Animal Taylor, died 6 weeks or so before Lemmy.

That vaguely rings a bell. Thanks for reminding me. Too much in so short a time.

From a pagan perspective, winter is the natural season of death. From a scientific perspective, most humans in first world countries die in their 60's and 70's. I'm very sad about Alan Rickman, and a little down about some of the others as well. As a person of faith, I know I'll see them all again, and get a chance to tell them how much I appreciate their art. I hope that you don't feel close to at least the next ten celebrities who die, you could use a break. A lot of people could.

I am painfully aware that as I approach 50, my idols are approaching their 70's and will start dropping like flies. It just seems like so many died so soon together. Rough start to the year, whether it's the right season, they were the appropriate age or if I will see them again. While I do believe I will see the people I've lost again, I have a very complicated relationship with death and so many people I know of in so short a time is upsetting. I know it's the way of things but I don't have to like it.

Yeah, the Gen X idols are aging, too. Eventually all of Nirvana will be dead, and 311, and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and Winona Ryder, and Ethan Hawke, and and and. We're gonna be heartbroken at every one. We already lost our shit when Corey Haim died.

My condolences.

I get it, everything dies.

I just wish it didn't happen at all at once as it seems to be doing now.

Condolences not needed, it's just life.

I morbidly joked on Facebook that I want all the KISS guys to stay healthy. Seriously. <3 I hope that death is just getting it all out of the way early.

1. I am proud to say that I know exactly who Richard Libertini was without looking him up.

2. I am ashamed to admit I assumed he was dead already.

1. Yay. I love character actors. Not really many actors like that anymore.

2. He was 82 so no harm in that.
