The weekend

Good morning World. I'm not even sure why I am up, seeing as the family got home and into bed a little past 1 am. One of the joys, and I am not being sarcastic here, of having a teenager is I act as a chaperon to the many concerts Bree wants to see. Overall it's been a blast delving into her musical tastes and rocking beside her. I've come to love Deadmau5 and Linkin Park and now have their music on my ipod. Last night's excursion was to the Beacon Theater to see Kamelot and Nightwish. What a concert! Kamelot opened and we got there about 15 minutes into their set. Both bands have a lush symphonic sound and Kamelot's lead singer has a vocal style that is some parts Geoff Tate, some parts Bruce Dickenson and some parts Dio. He knew how to work the crowd and had a beautiful melodic voice. About 15 minutes after we got there, Bree turned to me and asked I knew their music because I was really keeping time and singing along to choruses. I said no but I knew good metal when I heard it.

The band Bree was really there to see was Nightwish, a Finnish/Swedish metal band with a grand sweeping sound employing lots of keyboards. I really enjoyed them. Like Kamelot I had never heard any of their music before but they were fun and I loved watching the crowd.

Oh and the best part of last night? When we arrived at the show, there were students from Seton Hall selling WSOU merchadise. If you are into metal and you have lived in NJ or NY, you know that WSOU is the premier pirate radio station for Heavy Metal. Liam used to listen to them all the time when he lived in Brooklyn. I have an ancient bumper sticker of his that I slapped on Yellowbird a few years back that is distintegrating from age. Well last night I found out that WSOU now streams music and has an online store. They couldn't sell bumper stickers at last night's venue due to people sticking them on the walls during concerts but I did buy a t-shirt, a hoodie, a string backpack and a car magnet that was immediately slapped on the rear of Bluebird as soon as I got home. Liam would definitely approve. I think they were a little amused by the 40+ lady gushing about their station and merchandise. It was cheap too. The hoodie was only $20 and it was a good, heavy Fruit of the Loom sweat jacket. I walked out the concert clutching my bag, a very happy camper. And now I know where I can get a replacement bumper sticker for Yellowbird. Yay!

Today, if I can ever pry Bree and Howard out of bed, we are heading up the the NY Renaissance Faire for the day. Tomorrow and Tuesday both Bree and I have off from school and that is good because she turns 16 (!!!) on Tuesday and we are having a party for her on Saturday that still needs some work on our part.

Have a good Sunday folks.
