Brutal Assault - a fisting good time!

Aug 11, 2009 18:39

Brutal Assault was absolutely amazing, so chilled out and the camping/facilities/food was all great.

Trip over went very smoothly, got to sit in a proper old fashioned carriage on the way there and met up with Mat and Lee and met Alex from Manchester and Euros ( we didn't figure out to say his name, he was Dutch) who they had befriended. Drank around the tent and got a good kip! confused by people shouting what sounded like 'EINE' all night!!

Thursday

Scott went the shop and nearly got arrested for borrowing a trolly :S Explored the festival ground, it was set in an army base built in 1780 and was so cool. We watched the following bands -

The Lucifer Principle - pretty good, they had a double bassist \m/
Sadus - excellent thrash, must get some
Madball - oddly enjoyable hardcore
Pain - yay was all very electro and groovy
Turisas - ace again and lots of fun
Mithras - very annoying on the whole, no riffs and fret wankery

Friday

Matt constructed a cardboard fist, as fist was the word of the festival!! Went into the village to get some supplies, chilled out under a tree and Lee continued to attack and be attacked by wasps!!! Went for a meal at one of the restaurants, I had goulash and dumplings! Managed to bump into Pete who used to live round here and saw James too. Met some Czech people who hot us smashed!! Kept seeing a Pete Watson look alike!!

Hung out with Grave a bit which was fun, met one of Pestilence, two of Novmbers Doom and 2 of Suffocation who were all just hanging about getting pissed!

Bands today were:

Psycroptic - not my cup of tea
Negura Bunget - still great even with the line-up change
Vomitory - yay, amazing stuff
Grave - immense, nuff said
Novembers Doom - pretty good, very like My Dying Bride at times
Pestilence - sound was a bit iffy but it picked up especially for 'Out of the Body'
Brujeria - haha silliness and still a bit rubbish
Testament - fan-bloody-tastic
Ulver - very odd, wish they had done the old stuff
Dark Funeral - good again but sound was a bit lost on a big stage

Saturday

I haven't mentioned it was hot the whole time, around 27 degrees at the most, quite breezey though and easy to find shade. I also haven't mentioned how stupidly cheap everything was from booze to ice-creams to foot long hot-dogs that were really nice!!

Bands today:

The Faceless - tech metal, they had good guitars
Evile -finally saw them and wasn't too bowled over, best thing was the singer's broad Yorkshire accent
Hate Eternal - alright but I switched off a bit
Anaal Nathrakh - were belting, so fast and spot on in every way
Suffocation - are always great and were again, played lots of old stuff we hadn't seen them play before.
Immortal - *dribbles', so good, Abbath blew fire and did his crab work. I love Immortal so much!
Marduk - were good again, blasting for Satan and wotnot - check the video, there is fire!
Marduk vid
Skepticism - was more of an experience than just a band, was so heavy and very epic!

The only downer was missing Brutal Truth as they swapped with Cynic the bastards!!! Also the toilet situaltion got a bot out of hand, I swear some people enjoy crapping on the seat for fun!

Other highlights were - FIST, weird beetles, the horror cinema tent, the death hill that had to be scaled to get to the festival ground, venetian lampshade hair, getting to hear Ghoul finally and Rufas from Bill & Ted's stand up, a midget in a wheelchair giving pretty girls lifts...also the over-done make-up on the air hostess, Ryan Air playing a fanfare over the speakers when we landed

Sunday

Trip back was painful as the train was packed so we had to sit in the corridor for two hours! Got to Prague and got a great meal, sat at Mat and Lee's hostel for a bit recovering before having a small wonder and getting our flight home.

Oh yes here are the photos!

Good relaxing day off yesterday, caught up on Neighbours and in the eve watched Watchmen. Back to reality today though but I think I will have a lazy week!!

czech republic, festival, holiday, brutal assault
