Strategery

I sort of have this crush on a friend of my buddy's.

Sam's a Karen Carpenter-esque singer in an up-and-coming indie band, and has this powerfully cute "light up the room" charm to her. I asked her for her number the last time I saw her, after one of her shows. Tonight I worked up the courage to call her up and ask her out for valentine's day.

The only problem is, she's not single, as my buddy had previously told me she was. Unfortunately, I discovered this only AFTER having asked her to dinner.

I sat on my couch laughing for ten minutes after the call. It wasn't so much for the embarrassment.

Two weeks ago, a band that I produce for had a cd release show at the largest campus-area venue. While they were on stage, I sat in their lobby booth to sell records. Near the end of the show, they gave me a shout out, which attracted some people to my direction. I shook hands and smiled a lot, and ended up meeting some folks.

After the show, the band had an after-party in the vip lounge in one of the adjacent bars. We danced for a while with the girls, and ended up deciding that we would have an after-after-party at my place. I headed back just prior to last call, to clean up the place and get the wine ready. As everyone arrived, I played bartender/host, showing people around and mixing them drinks.

I end up talking with some girl. Before I got the chance to introduce myself, she smiles and asks if I rememered meeting her in the lobby. We make our way upstairs and talk for awhile about some random philosophical topic before I decided that I needed to go back downstairs to check on everything. Right as I'm down, I was asked to mix up some gin and tonics, which kept me busy for far longer than I would have liked to be, 4am on a sunday. As I was doing this, the girl I had been talking with decided to leave with her friends. I was half a second from getting her number when I decided that doing so would be a waste of time, as I liked Sam just a little bit more.

Well played, sir.
