If I ever say that I'm excited about moving, please remind me of these past few days. I had to be out of my old apartment on Monday so my plan was to come back to Tallahassee on Saturday, get the keys to my new apartment and start moving this weekend. That plan went to hell almost immediately. My luggage didn't come on the same flight from London that I was on, so I had to wait until midnight the next night (saturday) before they were delivered to Steph's in Atlanta. We drove back the next day and got into Tallahassee at 4. Oh, but the office for my new apartment wasn't open on Sundays so I couldn't get my keys until Monday. Monday rolls around and after class (1:00), I go quickly to my new complex to get the keys so I can start moving in. Nope. Apparently, the new apartment wasn't ready (on the day that I HAD to move) so they are giving me a temporary apartment, rent-free, until the new one is ready (thursday). So I rush back to my old apartment, finish packing things, and enlist the help of Shawn and Kristen to move. We move 3/4 of my stuff in one trip, but as I'm going back for the rest, I realize that I won't be able to get it all out, clean the place, and have it ready for the walk-through by 5. I go into the office of the old apartment and beg for another night there, which they give me by prorating my rent so I have to pay $15 to stay another night. Whatever, nothing else I can do. I spend my last night there and the next day (tuesday), I skip work to finish everything, which takes longer than expected. At 3:30 it starts POURING in Tallahassee and I'm taking thunder, lightening and torrential rains. I get almost all of my stuff moved and go back to the office of my old apartment and ask them to do the walk-through. They come and tell me that I owe them a little bit of money, and the guy doing the walk-through says I can just run to the ATM, get them their money and we'll be all set. So I do that, wading through the rain (by this point I am soaked to the skin because I don't have an umbrella). I get back to the office and they say: "well, we don't accept cash, you need a check or a money order." I wanted to turn and say, "well this piece of crap over here told me I can pay cash", but I didn't and asked where I could get a money order because my checkbook was packed somewhere. "Circle K in the gas station on the corner." So I go there and of course...can't do money orders. "But there's a Circle K about 2 miles away that does them for sure." So I quickly go there (well, as quickly as one can go when it's pouring) and guess what...strange things are afoot at the Circle K and the power is out. So no money order. So I go back to the office and ask them what they want me to do (I look like a freaking drowned rat at this point). So he says that Publix does money orders and that since I wouldn't make it back by 5 I could just drop it and the keys in the box anytime. I wanted to yell, why couldn't they have said that to begin with?!? Finally I leave that forsaken apartment (I never did like it) and don't realize until the next day that I left a few things in a drawer, so I had to sneak past the management and into my apartment today before I gave the keys back. But since I didn't have any furniture in the new place, Steph is letting me crash on her couch until my bed arrives tomorrow (thursday). So, there you have it...a pain in the ass moving job (thank god I don't have any furniture) that isn't over since I have to do it all over again tomorrow. My only furniture will be a bed and I think Shawn and I are going to make some furniture (desk, bookshelves, tables) for our respective places.
