My oldest son is in the 6th grade at a magnet school that offers an accelerated learning program. He has done very well this year. The only class he seems to struggle with is math. By "struggle" I mean he makes low to mid B's. His bestfriend Shyam is a math whiz and is trying to skip 7th grade math next year and go directly into 8th grade Pe-Algebra. Of course, my son wants to do it, too. He would have to take a test to see if he can place out of 7th grade math. I'm having some reservations about this. Of course, I had reservations about him skipping kindergarten, and that turned out okay. But I worry that if he skips 7th grade math, he may miss learning something he may need down the road. Also, I worry that he's going to burn out eventually. Have you ever dealt with any students that have skipped math grades? Any thoughts or advise would be greatly appreciated.
