Adam

My cousin Adam died this morning, he was 15. He was mildly to moderately retarded and had some digestive problems, and we're still not really sure why he died. He was being watched by a baby-sitter and just laid down and died. He said he hadn't been feeling well that morning, but it shouldn't have happened. Someone must have made a mistake. A doctor should have known his disorder was life threatening, they should have given him better medication. We don't know exactly what happened, but children shouldn't just die at home, out of the blue. There must have been some warning signs. It would be different if he died in a hospital, but since it happened the way it did it just makes me wonder if it could have been prevented.

He had eating problems, he looked like he was 11 or 12. He just wouldn't eat that much, my grandmother always worried about that. It's not fair, he was a sweet boy. He was just confirmed into church about a month ago. He loved video games (and he was really good at them!), cars, and going to my dad's corn mazes. He was just always happy. He could have had a great life. At the YMCA we have a lot of mentally challenged workers and they socialize together, he could have done something like that. It doesn't seem real. It makes me sick to think he's laying cold, in a plastic bag being refrigerated right now. I don't know if he even understood what was happening to him.

I hope he's in a better place, without his disabilities. I always wondered what he would be like if he wasn't retarded. I don't know how his parents are taking it, and his 13 year old sister Crystal. I just want to know what happened to him. I guess you never know when things like this are going to happen, poor Adam.
