I have never been a huge flip flop fan. Never really saw the point. Granted, I lived in New York where that particular circle of hell was nearly always froze over. Since moving to North Carolina I've come to an epiphany. Flip flops are good! Awesome! Cute! Comfortable! Rad! Stylish! Cozy! Summery! etc. I watched as every summer.. spring for you northerners.. the locals would dust off their flip flops, well worn, for the long months ahead. Young and old, male and female, didn't matter. This spring, I was bitten, by the flip flop bug. I started seeing the cute trendy looks with them in magazines, on hollywood stars, and eventually in the store ads. I saw sales of basic flip flops for a dollar, ones with sparkly jewels, ones with high heels..
But I'd always been kind of leery of the whole.. thing inbetween my toes thing. So I held out.... Until I saw super cute summer orange plastic high heel flip flops on sale for a dollar at Wings... I was going through a shoe fetish, so I had to have them.
Now, the heel... was hellacious. But the toe thing.. not so bad. So today I bought a pair of standard flat flip flops at the dollar store. Super cute. foamy kind of, plastic strappy. blue with flowers and surfboards. I wore them immediately as I finished my errands.. they were soooooo comfortable that when I found myself once again at the dollar store tonight.... I bought a second pair. Orange, with stripes. My Mom doesn't see why I would want to wear these anyplace other than the house, the beach, or for a quick walk down the street to the mailbox, particularly shopping. I pointed out to her that lots of people do so, and in doing so opened a can of worms. For the rest of the evening I was looking at peoples feet. They'd approach, I'd look down, studying their footwear.. my findings..
Of men, 50% wore flip flops
Of women, 90% wore flip flops. I also even saw one woman wearing a high heel jewels beaut of a flip flop. But I saw fabric ones and plastic ones and foam ones and bright ones and dull ones and skin tone ones and classy ones and ones with designs and ones plain and ones sparkly and ones well.. not.
I ♥ the flip flop!
