So this whole Gilmore Girls spin off thing... *sigh*. I really don't know what to think.
I'm glad for Milo to get this opportunity, but I'm just not sure how well it will pan out. Milo is a great actor and deserves his own show, and I think he can handle it. But I'm not sure if the world is ready for a spin off of Gilmore Girls. It'd also bring so many things into play. There would be no more Jess on the show (although they say there could be crossovers but we'll address that later.) Luke would be back to sad, plus he'd have renivated his apartment for no real reason. Jess and Rory would break up which would really suck. It'd make 2002 an entire waste. Most of the show (half at least) in 2002 revolved around the Dean/Rory/Jess love triangle, (square when they added Shane). The last episodes of Season 2, and the first of Season 3... and now that they've finally resolved it and gotten over it. I'm just not sure it's the best idea. Just when they start moving forward, it's like they're going to take a giant leap backwards by just doing this spin-off. Plus it's supposed to take place in California, Venice Beach or some other equally shallow piece of about-to-be-island. How the heck are they going to explain the crossovers?
Although the loss of Jess could act as a Luke/Lorelai catalyst. *sigh* there are so many things to think of. This move will effect both shows, in ratings and popularity. Gilmore Girls is just really picking up and hitting it's prime. Are they really willing to take the chance now by doing this? It could severely damage the show. It's almost jumping the shark. Except there's no shark. So they're just jumping the water the shark is in. Actually this spin off COULD be the shark itself. If that is so they would be jumping the shark when it flops and Jess returns to Stars Hollow. and the new show would be definately jumping the shark with it's pilot.
It's already being compared to Everwood and it doesn't even have a title!
I don't think it's a great idea.
