...28 is shaping up to be pretty awesome. I have never been a big birthday person (love the excuse to get friends together, not really the type to expect everyone to fawn...I mean, yes, I'm completely fabulous, but I feel pretty damn appreciated most days out of the year), but this year has been like megauberbirthdaydeluxe2007, so now that the actual day is here, I'm already feeling quite spoiled.
Case in point...
Luke kicked things off with surprise outing to see The Decemberists play with the LA Phil at the Hollywood Bowl (where this heart-of-stone Slytherin promptly got teary as they launched into an insanely great version of "the Crane Wife" to open the show), and did that thing you see in movies, where the person actually gets the exact thing they desperately wanted but deemed too excessive to purchase on their own (namely, an insanely badass old school BSG cylon centurian ring by my favorite jeweler, Han Cholo). So intensely awesome, one of those evenings I will never forget.
The parental units came through as always, with an especially thoughtful and funny selection of old pictures and memories from my Mom. No, I will not share the one of me in my Snow White dress + jeans in winter phase. Sis bought me an awesom Marc Jacobs in-jokey tote that makes me feel far more fashionable than I have any right to, given that I'm hauling it around wearing a wife beater and jeans.
Friends have all sent well wishes, Luke's folks are in town and are sponsoring a day of Suzanne's favorite things (Toluca Gardens chinese food, HP & OotP at the Chinese theater, and drinks at the Red Lion)...life was already pretty damn sweet, but it's nice to have your birthday roll around and crystallize that fact.
So, in honor of my b-day, cheers to all those new friends I've made in the past year, through fandom or Phoenix Rising...seems appropriate that my b-day is smushed in the middle of all the HP hysteria, life is pretty stellar. Thoughts on 5 memories and the film to come later once company leaves town...in short, best film of the bunch, imho, so expect minimal nitpicking, maximum mocking of the way Feydemort says "crucio" with that wacky little lilt.
