Introducing Fairuza Balk as Dorothy. The moviegoing public just wasn't ready for this faithful-to-the-source-material 30-plus-year-on sequel- they went in expecting Judy Garland and Hollywood showbiz musical schmaltz, and came away with Dorothy almost getting shock treatment, screaming headless witches, and weird wheeled lackeys. Also featuring the great Nicol (Merlin in Excalibur) Williamson, Jean Marsh, Piper Laurie, and Matt (a thousand westerns, and Buckaroo Banzai) Baker. Directed by the legendary cinematographer Murch, for the first and last time. Claymation by Will Vinton, whom you never hear from anymore. Really a one of a kind film.
