Scrooge aka A Christmas Carol (1951, Brian Desmond-Hurst)

Would anybody like to tell me why my lead picture, above the cut, always obscures my icon? I notice no one else has this problem but me, and it's most annoying.

Since Christmas is upon us, I thought this would be a cool film to post. Taken from the DVD; if ever there was a picture that's crying out for restoration, it's this one- the print quality on the DVD is alarmingly bad, so I apologize for the fuzzy quality of these screencaps. Featuring the great Alastair Sim as Scrooge, giving what I honestly believe is one of the greatest performances in the history of cinema. This version is full of oppressive, gothic mood and was often shown on weekend "Chiller Theatre" type programs when Christmas fell on a Saturday night because of its dark look and supernatural themes- that's where I first saw it, in 1973, when Sir Cecil Creape screened it on his "Creature Features" show on Nashville WSM Channel 4. One of these caps (#17) features a very young Patrick (John Steed, Avengers) MacNee as young Jacob Marley. Edward (The original Wicker Man, The Equalizer) Woodward also appears as the Ghost of Christmas Present, and Ernest Thesiger (Dr. Praetorious from Bride of Frankenstein) plays an undertaker. Hope you can dig it, and God bless us- every one!
