its a really intriguing story, imo. its the same reason why i'm completely intrigued by people like everett ruess; people that decide to just up and leave society and disappear fascinate me. yeah, i'll agree he was stupid for not really educating himself completely to survive the alaskan wilderness but i really love his story

it's definitely an intriguing story and this film is in my top 10

but i think it is also terribly painful and tragic.

and when some people hail him as a hero i think they are just focusing on his fearlessness and the impulsivity one has to possess to reject and abandon society so completely, and they're not fully understanding the consequences that his actions have not just for his family and friends, but ultimately - and this is most important for the worshippers - what they have for himself.
