Whoot!

Of the movies you love (or the movies critics love) what are some of the great overlooked performances? They can be from great actors with small parts (Donald Sutherland in Pride and Prejudice), or the supporting cast, or even extras in the background! (You know, like those great stuntmen who die the dramatic falling-over-the-railing-while-screamin' deaths!)

Personally, one of my favorite performances in a movie is in Last of the Mohicans. One of the final scenes, after Uncas has been killed by Magua, Alice (Jodhi May) is poised at the edge of the cliff preparing to jump. This single three-minute scene brings tears to my eyes every time. The look of shattered innocence on her face, the tears in her dark eyes, I can't help but cry for her pain. Every time I see it her eyes haunt me.

Another question to poise: Are there any songs that, as soon as you hear them, you think of a movie?

For me, every time I hear "You Are Always On My Mind" I think of Practical Magic. "You're My Best Friend" brings to mind Shaun of the Dead. "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" inspires images of a pants-less Bridget running after Mark Darcy in Bridget Jones's Diary. And then there's the Moby song at the end of both The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy; for the life of me I can't think of the title, but whenever I hear it I think of Jason Bourne running for his life and dramatic car chases.
