[Several hours after this.]

I thought I had a touch of the indigestion this morning, but it hasn't passed.

I've lost my eye and been shot to pieces, but I have not vomited blood before. It is the typhoid fever. I've seen many a soldier die of such a thing, and I know the symptoms.

I'm sure it's not typhoid, but if you like you can come into the infirmary and I'll take a look at you.

If it's the typhoid fever, I am played out, Doctor.

You can't die permanently here, Mr. Cogburn. The Admiral places measures for it not to happen.

But you should be looked at or I can come to you.

I learned last year not to argue with little girls when they get it in their minds to have their way.

All right, Sis. You'll have to come here. I'm as weak as a kitten, and feverish to boot.

[Martha was actually fairly nearby to his room, and she showed up rather quickly. She didn't think that it was Typhoid, in fact it was fairly doubtful. All and all, Rooster didn't seem like he was in pain, which was a sure sign that he wasn't infected with it, and that he probably didn't have the ulcer that had been suggested. There was a soft knock and Martha called out to him.]

Mr. Cogburn?
